No surprise to see Shaq demands trade and the Lakers fall apart. They're totally humiliated by Detroit.

The only thing matters in this that Lakers are going to be bad for a while with just Kobe. They're now in rebuidling mode. Now it's the perfect opportunity for the Rox to dominate the west. Adding couple more good pieces like Detroit did, we'll be a contender in 1 year.

Shaq with Yao is just ridiculous. Shaq with a huge ego would not want to play in the same team as Yao. No way in hell it would happen.

i dunno if anyone mentioned this... but if Indy are going to make a move for Shaq would that take Indy out of the T-mac sweepstake, and make us a stronger player for T-mac, also allowing us to give up less for T-Mac ( I am not saying 4 us to trade for t-mac and keep sf). And our TE becomes important to indy, allowing us to get maybe a harrington for the TE straight up.

Houston trade SF and Cat for T-mac, TE for Al Harrington.

    thoughts?

When its all said and done i'm willing to bet Shaq is still a Laker when training camp rolls around. First, his 27 million next year and 30 million the following year is just ridiculous. And 2nd, if Rudy T. does indeed become the Lakers coach i think Shaq would love to play for him.

I think the "possible" attempt to get Rudy is for exactly that reason... to keep Shaq. And Shaq is why RT would consider it. I'm really going to be depressed if he goes there, but it'd be a good situation for him. I don't see Kobe going anywhere. I think he's blowing smoke to get attention. Just my 2 cents.

Dont be surprised if The griz get in on the mix... Shaq was happy when West was in command... and the Griz are heading right direction.

I wouldn't be surprised if Shaq ends up playing for the Mavs.

Shaq and Kobe are done, IMO. Shaq only stays if Kobe leaves and the coach (and system) are to his liking. And that isa no guarantee that all that will keep The Most Dominant willingly happy to stay in place.

In other words, with Shaq available, is Yao still untouchable?

The use of the Trade Exception is key. What if we could:

    Mobley + Exception for Tmac

Then Orlando uses TE + Grant Hill + Howard(?) + Draft picks for Shaq.

I haven't checked the economics, but if the Lakers are seriously looking to unload Shaq, there are few offers where they are not going to have to accept junk. With this, they are basically just taking on Grant Hill, who may come back....and they'd end up with a TE to pick up another player they want.

    Francis
    TMac
    JJ
    Cato
    Yao
with Mo, Boki, Ollie(?), and whoever we sign with the MLE.

And most importantly, Shaq is now in the EAST!

The only team who has quality players with large contracts, an owner willing to pay 30 mil to a player at the end of his career, enough talent left after the trade for Shaq to want to go there = Dallas.

I would have to think the Lakers would want to trade Shaq to an eastern conference team. There are several teams looking to unload marquee disgruntled players with big contracts: Iverson, Vince Carter, T-Mac. Paul Pierce seemed to be unhappy at the end of this past year.

    Impact to Rockets-

I just don't see Shaq going back to Orlando. He was fairly upset with the media and fans when he left for LA. Therefore T-Mac stays on the table for us.

Regardless of who goes after Shaq several teams will be asked for help to make the trade work because of cap issues: Utah, Denver, Atlanta, and Houston.

Here's a 3rd for you: Any team that trades for Shaq will be expected to sign him to a 3 year contract extension in the $40 million range even though it will be unknown whether or not he'll ACTUALLY play until he's 37.

Maybe the Lakers can trade with Sacramento and make Shaq a queen. ;)

You just know that he would love to be on a team that he has constantly made fun of in the past.

I don't think they can afford him. They are still paying for Hill too aren't they. They would be able to afford Hill, McGrady and Shaq

You've mentioned this a couple of times, but where did you get this from. No team is going to extend Shaq to a max extention. It isn't going to happen. This is just Shaq posturing and being a petulant superstar. I don't see him opting out of a $30 million option year to take a huge paycut in order to spite his current team. If he isn't retired by the time his contract ends he'll probably get either a couple years in the 15-20 million dollar range or start taking 1 year 30 million dollar deals just like Jordan did at the end of his career.
