Defense CANNOT be compared to offense. Shane's is a player who does not make a lot of mistakes. very efficient players are what stabalize a defense or offense. consitent players stabalize a team. when shane is measured on this team. its obviously more than stats that are looked at. His consitent production is why he is a championship type player. He is always at the right spot on D, and he is a low mistake guy on offense. That is why he has been a starter since he has gotten here. Taking a line frm Morey.... shane's next contract would alone be because of his consisten production as a ball player. not as a shooter or defender, but as an Overall basketball foundation. Awsome player to keep to win, and win big.

He only makes sense as a role player on a contending team,we aren't that team and aren't likely to be one for a long time. In 3-4 years, his defense will still be good, but not as much as it is now, even though he doesn't rely on athletic ability. Trade him, while you can and rebuild. Shane is running out of time to get the chance of contributing to a winning team. Turning it around so quickly,by the time his contract expires is very unlikely. He might want to leave by then, despite his loyalty to the team.

Battier is much of defenders, rather than a scorer. Normally, they're underpaid.
But, now in the case of Battier, it's overpaid.

IMO,at least, he is worthy of a full MLE. :)
