battier is fundamental alright. he dribbles like he came straight out of a Hoosiers movie. he plays great positional defense and his hand in the face tactic works most of the time. however if you have a player with great concentration (Kobe) then they'll make the shot since he's not really affecting the flight of the ball. he has NO driving game, part of which i think has to do with his weak handles.
Portland has made it known that Outlaw is on the trading block, because they favor Martell Webster over him. I believe there was also a rumor in which Morey had discussed trading Battier for Outlaw as well. Also, Frye would be included to make the salaries work. Frye is the odd man out in Portland. He hardly plays behind Aldridge and there are no mins for him at the C position due to Pryzbilla and Oden being there. I also believe that Portland is real high on Battier. McMillan was a defensive player and maybe he thinks Shane can be a good example for all those young players. Hopefully, they haven't seen him play this season and we can still get this deal done.
Without Shane our transition D was horrible at the beginning of the year. I'm sure you could have seen that...Shane organizes the unit and sets a tone. I think Artest gambles a little too much and leaves the rest to scramble to stop a score if Artest is out of position. Shane is solid. Artest is good too but he requires a shot blocker to be behind him...
wow, just wow. you must have never played 1 on 1 or ANY kind of Basketball to appreciate how hard it is to stay in front of a player and in his face ALL NIGHT.
he is a good defender, just wish he could do more offensly but that shane. His hand over face do work, some of the guys it's just too talented, even triple team could'nt stop kobe what do u think shane could stop him. Shane could slow or brother him a bit him down but teh face it's some nba player are just to talented.
Shane is a great defender. He's a great team defender. I do think his man defense is a little overrated. Meaning, he won't "lock down" many great players (as in crowd them and prevent them from even getting a shot off the way that Bruce Bowen and Ron Artest did when they were younger). He will however get them to take shots that they normally wouldn't and get a hand in their face so they shoot a lower percentage. Sometimes this doesn't work as well, some guys are used to hitting shots with a hand in their face and the only way to 'stop' them is by crowding them. Shane isn't quick enough to do that. ...and in that game last season, against the lakers, Shane was fouling Kobe quite a bit. He was stretching out his hands right above Kobe's face so he didn't have enough room to jump properly and he tapped him on the nose a few times.
he is just not in shape. But the effect he defend Wade in last game is obvious. overrated?i don't think that's your original opinion
Shane is a good defender, however, I do think it is a little overrated. He is not physical enough (I would use the word dirty). Why Bruce Bowen is the defender of the year? Because he is physical, and he sticks his body to his oponent, but Shane doesn't.
I agree with the poster that Shane's d is overrated. I won't say Wafer is better, obviously Artest is better. I have been saying shane is overrated for a year now, and I want to trade him because he does have value to other teams. I think everyone over rates him... obviously everyone else is wrong and me and the poster are right... anyhow i like shane but i'm tired of hearing about his intangibles and watching the person he is defending drop 25-30 points on us. I know he is always guarding one of the best in the league but I honestly don't think he is any better a defender than Hayes and Hayes is usually playing guys much bigger.
