wafer better than battier? u must not have watched the heat game as he kept losing his man, and marion pretty much scored over him with ease.
He is not all the way back from healing on his foot injury and that might be why you are not so impressed with his defense of late. He might not be at his best all season, either. But he is too smart, too long, and quick enough to be a top defender in the league.
This is where people look stupid. You spend the whole paragraph spelling out what is wrong with Shane. You all his defense overated, say he cant handle the ball, cant finish at the rim, and is unathletic. His man never has to guard him, he just runs to the three point line and is such a drain offensively that it hurts the team. Yet somehow, we should be able to trade him for an athletic young SF (Outlaw) and an athletic young PF (Frye). Why would Portland give up two young players with skill, for an older, slow, unathletic SF who cant dribble and apparently plays pretty overated defense? Shane is not a perfect player. But you have to acknowledge what he brings if you are going to imagine up trades that benefit us. Its like people who destroy Alston over and over and then say he should be the main player in a trade for Hinrich. Personally, I think Shane fits the team far better then Artest and dont see Morey pulling any trade that involves Shane.
I use to think Battier was over-rated, now I don't. The numbers don't like. Look at the Rockets fg% this season in games where Battier plays significant minutes versus the ones he's out injured. It's remarkable. The man has a massive impact on the defensive end of the floor. Not just on his own man, but team defense as well. Maybe his hard work is contagious or something...but whatever it is, opponents shoot the ball terribly when he is on the floor.
this dude must hot have been watching any rockets games this whole year! wafer is a great shoot but this off season he needs to work on the defence!
shane is not at 100 % and clearly worse on defense than in the last couple of years but at the moment he's still our best defender besides chuck hayes.
the Black Panthers are over rated...... and don't you know about SELF DEFENSE and not defending others?
C'mon man. I highly disagree with this thread. Battier is one of the cornerstones of the defense of our team. Just be glad we have him together with truwarrier. As one of the threads that I've viewed then said, pick your poison. Try not to make a thread under an insurmountable amount of emotion next time ok? That said, I hope you learned a thing or two about defense as have I. We need athletes like Shane to do the little things that contribute into making this team great .
Worst post ever? Possibly. You say his defense is overrated (maybe), then you say Wafer is a better defender (ridiculous), then you complain about his offense, as if that is even relevant to the topic that you started.
Shane can't dribble the ball? Oh I think he can dribble the ball fairly well. He is supposed to be the most fundamentally sound player in the league. He just refuses to do anything that has a degree of risk in it that he deems unnecessary. At 6'8'', your dribble is inevitably high and it's hard to protect the ball well. So he finds the PG.
I think he's trying to incite violence...... until Wafer has made a defensive team this is preposterous. Where was that defense against Kobe on Tues in the 4th quarter? SELECTIVE ROCKET VIEWING ALERT
shane is a great defender but he's not doing too good on d this year, probably because of injury but last year he was def. top 5 on ball defenders in the league
look, the hand in the face defense is ONLY effective if the hand is in the face before the shooter gets into his release. what i see from battier is shooters getting their shots on him ,then he sticks his hand in their face right as the ball is being released or after. the timing isn't there.
Agreed. Shane is the best role player we have. His defense makes Ron's look like a joke (not that Ron's is bad), the soul fact that the heat shot under 40% comes from Battier. But whatever.
