I come from a very athletic family. It starts with my dad, Eddie, who was a great athlete in his time (or so he says! ha!). He is six feet tall (1.83m) and played baseball, basketball, and football. His claims to fame are trying out for the Chicago White Sox for Major League Baseball and once scoring 50 points in a basketball game when he played for a US Army team in Germany. I have even seen the newspaper story about the 50 point game. That's one thing I never did in my career! Growing up in Detroit, Michigan, I remember going to watch him play softball every week. He could hit the ball a mile! He was a great athlete.

My mother, Sandee, didn't play athletics but she was a very good marksman. She won awards for her skills at the shooting range. I think I get my hand eye coordination from her. She is tall for a woman 1.72 m. Although my parents are somewhat tall, I don't know where I received my height. I was taller than both of my parents when I was 13 years old!

The rest of my family is also very athletic. My older sister Stephanie ran track at the University of Minnesota. She competed in the heptathlon, which is a combination of running, throwing, and jumping events. It is usually reserved for the top athletes.

My older brother Todd played baseball and basketball. He won a state championship in baseball and tried out for his college team.

My younger brother Jeremy is probably a better pure athlete than me. He played football, baseball, and basketball. He was recruited by many colleges to play both football and basketball before deciding to go to the same school as his older brother, Duke University, my alma mater. Jeremy probably had a chance to play in the NFL, but had too many concussions and had to retire.

My younger sister Ashley played volleyball and lacrosse in high school and was a great performer in both sports.

As you can see, athletics are a big part of Battier family life. We have learned many things through sports, but the most important lessons we have all learned is to work hard, be a great teammate, and always try your hardest. I am proud of my family and all of their achievements!

I don't think he was angry, he highlighted Genuine before when he asked the question, is this blog fake...

Hello!

As I write this, we are getting ready to play the Minnesota Timberwolves, led by Kevin Garnett. This is the first long road trip that we have madethis year and will prove to be a good test for our improving team. I believe that I have the best job in the world, playing basketball in the NBA. I get to wake up every day and live my dream. I know I am lucky and blessed.

Many of my friends laugh at me when I tell them that playing in the NBA is more difficult than you may believe and from what you see on television or read from newspaper. The most difficult part of our job is probably our schedule with all the travel that comes with the job.

Here is a slice in the week of a road trip on the NBA. Hopefully you will understand that the NBA is a difficult job!

Tuesday 7:30 pm - Play the Golden St. Warriors, depart after the game.
Wednesday 2:00 am - Arrive in Minneapolis (I usually don't fall asleep until 3:00 am after games too!)
Wednesday 4:00 pm - Team meeting to discuss the Timberwolves
Wednesday 7:00 pm - Play Minnesota Timberwolves, depart after game
Thursday 2:30 am - Arrive in Charlotte (we usually have a recuperation day >after back to back games)
Friday 10:00 am - Practice for Charlotte Bobcats
Friday 7:00 pm - Play Charlotte Bobcats, depart after game
Saturday 1:00 am - Arrive in Washington DC
Saturday 4:00 pm - Team Meeting to discuss Washington Wizards
Saturday 7:30 am - Play Washington Wizards, depart after game
Sunday 2:00 am - Arrive in Houston

Whew! I am tired just thinking about it! As you can see, we have a lot of late nights and long flights. This is only one week in the NBA!! Imagine 30 weeks just like this. Like I said earlier, however, I wouldn't trade this job for any other job in the world.

Wish me good luck this week, I will check back in after the road trip!

People always ask me about the different coaches that I have played for. I have been extremely lucky to have played for the best basketball coaches in the game. From my high school coach, Kurt Keener, to my college coach at Duke, Mike Krzyzewski (or as most people call him "Coach K"), to my professional coaches Hubie Brown, Mike Fratello, and my current coach, Jeff Van Gundy, I have had great coaches.

All of my coaches have taught me the right way to play basketball. You would be surprised at how many players go through their careers and are never properly taught how to play the game. Basketball is a wonderful game, but there are many small nuances that truly separate the good players from the outstanding players. Many of these nuances can only be taught by your coach.

In high school at Detroit Country Day School outside of Detroit, Michigan, my coach, Coach Keener, taught me how to work on my game and taught me that the best players are the first to arrive to practice and the last ones to leave the gym because they are constantly working on their games.

In college at Duke University, Coach K taught me that to be a great player, you must play with an incredible amount of passion and discipline. The most important thing I learned from Coach K,however, is that you must be a great teammate. You must always push your teammates and you must never let down your teammates by giving less than your best efforts. Only then will your basketball abilities be maximized.

In the NBA, all of my coaches have taught me about what it takes to win. While all of my professional coaches have somewhat different philosophies on the way the game should be played, there were many qualities that my professional coaches shared. All were organized, preached about discipline, and were very demanding that the teams I played on all gave their best efforts every single night. This may seem like obvious qualities that all coaches share, however, I have been around the game of basketball long enough to know that there are acutally few coaches that have these qualities.

I enjoy playing for my current coach, Jeff Van Gundy. He is a very good motivator. He talks about the style of play that we must employ to win every single day at practice and at games. We even have giant posters in our practice facility that talk about things like having low turnovers, taking high percentage shots, playing team defense, and rebounding the basketball. He demands a high level of concentration and effort every single practice and game. He is a very smart person and I have learned a great deal from him. Most people think he is always serious, but he actually has a great sense of humor that most people don't see.

I would maybe like to coach my children (when I have them!) in basketball someday. Because I have played for some of the best coaches in basketball, I feel I am prepared to be a good coach someday!!!!

I get a lot of questions about what I do off the court. Although I am an intense competitor on the court, I am actually very relaxed and chill off the court. When I am at home, I actually don't watch much NBA basketball. I am around it so much, that I like to escape from the game when I come home.

I like to watch my college, Duke University, play, but that's about it.I really enjoy spending time with my wife Heidi. We like to take our dogs, Bruin and Gertie, on long walks. We also take them to the "Dog Park" where they run around and play with other dogs. Heidi and I also like to watch movies. I like to laugh, so my favorite movie is "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" starring Will Farrell. It is hilarious!

When I want to relax, I play my guitar. I have been playing the guitar for over three years now. I wouldn't say that I was great, but I can play a few songs. I have a very good friend who is an excellent guitar player who showed me a few chords and songs and now I am hooked! It is very relaxing and it calms me down after a tough game. The only problem is that I am a horrible singer! Even my wife tells me that I should just concentrate on playing the guitar and not sing. Ouch! I think that Justin Timberlake's job is safe, I think I will stick with playing basketball.

When my friends come over to my house, we like to play billiards and darts. We are very competitive and don't like losing to each other. In the summer, I love to go to the lake and go swimming and just relax in the sun. I enjoy listening to music and reading books too. As you can see, I try to relax as much as I can because I know that the season is so intense and I put so much into it.

When I come to tour China this summer. Peak's General Manager Mr. Xu has promised me that he will take me golfing. That will be very fun, I can't wait to play.

Before I go, I just want to thank everyone who voted for me for the NBA All-Star game. I received 1 million votes! I couldn't believe it. I know I have many fans in China to thank for that. So thank you!!!!!!

Does he actually blog on sina.com? Where is the original blog source? I would find it strange that he blogs on a chinese website.

That sina.com blog is sponsored by Peak, I believe. And that is the original blog source, I think.

The way it worked, I believe, is that Shane Battier contributed his articles, alot of time with photos as well (as illustrated before of his wife, parents, family, and even his dogs) on a weekly or biweekly basis, or whenever he found time to write something, and sina.com posted the article onto the blog accompanied with a Chinese translation.

1 million votes?! (give or take some scores of thousands) anyway, that is very impressive. i don't doubt about 25,000 came just from Clutchfans. which makes me wonder... when KG and Duncan's careers are winding down (sooner than later), and Battier's still in his peak (and in Peak shoes) and on a Rockets championship squad , does anyone think that he can get voted in as a starting forward? the west used to be so forward heavy, but there doesn't seem to be an imminent changing of the guard (sic) as far as elite western forwards are concerned. there's still Marion (although he's getting older too), Boozer looks like the real deal, Brand, Randolph, if healthy, AK-47 and Shard, and maybe Artest if he stays in the west. none of those guys are popular outside of their small markets. oh, i forgot Odom and Melo. still, i don't see any of these guys getting over 1 million votes.

Shane an All-Star? it could happen...
