So what would be his reason? If he's not a ring chaser, and you don't buy this, then what's left

I think Shane befriended the Superfriends ever since they were teammates on the 2006 USA World Championship team.

He is most likely there to teach Wade his patented style of defense against Kobe Bryant.

Bad move by the heat, Battiers defense is on the decline and he could not even beat out Sam Young last season. The heat do no need a 3 they need a center.

Btw they have lebron at the 3 and Bosh at the 4. Haslem backs up Bosh at the 4 and when Miller comes back he backs up Lebron. Battier will be lucky to get 15 minutes a game.

Battier is in decline, James Jones is probably better then Shane right now

Good for Shane. Always loved him as a rocket. hopefully he'll help them win that ring. As long as Dallas never wins anything ever again. I'll be very happy!

    RIP Shane Battier.

Gotta root against him now. Nothing personal. It's all business.

Personally, from that practice video posted- I'd say Thabeet is looking better than Jordan Hill. Just wanted to state that. :) Guess he's the better of two scrubs.

Shane Battier? He's got to be Aquaman IMO. Very good at what he does but limited.

I'm happy for Battier. This gives him a legitimate shot at a championship (in the very least, probably a solid run in the playoffs) and if Miami earns a title this season he will likely have played a legitimate role. I'll root for Shane in this.

I'm kind of neutral on the whole Heat team thing, but have no reason to actually like them (as a team) other than Shane being on the team and me being a fan of basketball as entertainment in general. Good for Shane Battier as far as I'm concerned.

Riley has always envisioned a "close out the game" big lineup of:

    PG Lebron
    SG Wade
SF (spot up shooter with some defense)
    PF Bosh
C Anthony or anyone who can defend

The spot upshooter at SF for this lineup was supposed to be Mike Miller, but his injuries killed that plan last year, so that ineup was rarely used since James Jones didn't really earn it. Thus they went more conventional with a PG.

If Battier proves capable, I can see him in that role. Not to start the game, mind you, but to play most of the 4th quarter.

It would be an intriging lineup for matchup purposes, though perhaps vulnerable to a penetrating PG too much for Wade or LBJ to handle. But on the other end can you see the PG guarding Wade or Battier?
