For people using the T-mac,Yao, and Ron Artest excuse.

What was his excuse in Memphis then?

I like him but from reading this article you would think he's a superstar go to guy.

Sounds like this guy just got done dominating with Battier on NBA Live 2009.

I'd rather have a young Carl Herrera. Yes, I know that Carl didn't have range and played the 4, but Battier can't do crap picking up garbage, and just the fact that "Battier always gets back" doesn't make up for his offensive disappearances.

He's a JVG special that is overrated by JVG-heads. The weakness on our team this year is our wings - they are injured - but when you look at Battier, he doesn't fit the bill for this team.

Fire RA, trade Yao or unload McGrady, but Shane's the odd man out here with Artest on-board as our team currently stands. That probably will change soon though.

BrooksBall is right, Battier may be an underrated basketball player (and I personally believe he is), but his offensive skills are not underrated. The sports writer's description of Battier's scoring ability makes him sound like Brandon Roy (perhaps the writer's also a delusional Rockets fan still recovering from the draft-day trade?). Is he capable to accomplish these feats? Sure he can, in the NBDL that is. I mean come on, if Battier possesses all these offensive skills, all his coaches would have been dumb not to use him to the team's advantage no matter which superstars are on the same team. The fact that he doesn't score in bunches in the NBA while getting plenty of burn shows that his offensive game is limited, which is perfectly fine, because he does everything else so well.

And I love Battier as a player.

I like Scola to an extent but he'll be 30 soon. If after this season, you can get younger talent for him, I'd do it.

Shane used to be a decent offensive threat but he has not shown that in a while. I think he should post up smaller players and take the ball to the rim when he can get there in one dribble more often. You can see the defense play him for the spot up 3 so if he would mix it up every now and again he would find himself with a clear path to the hoop or with a 6'3" guy on his back in the post. The few times he does look for his shot the defense is usually caught flat footed.

I have no idea who that description is talking about but it isn't Battier. I still love having the guy on the team but I don't confuse Battier with Lebron James.

It's not like the guy has no skill to put the ball in the hoop inside the arc. He's not good...most reasonable fans would agree with that. He's not even Bruce Bowen competent inside. Bowen is no good, but in the playoffs has come up with plenty clutch 2 pt floaters, banks, and pull up J's...and no one expects it.

So yeah, he sucks kind of, but he's not a total buffoon in there. A miss is a miss and a make is a make, so just because many of his misses are airballs/look terrible, doesn't mean he doesn't make a fair enough amount to consider it a semi-legit offensive option.

If Shane is covered by a 6'3" guy, then go ahead and post him up if that is the path of least resistance. Don't expect 75% success there, but don't expect 25% either. It can get a bucket and the Rockets still go through too many dryspells to discount Shane in the post as an option. If this team was a smooth offensive machine, then I'd have no problem with totally ignoring Shane unless it's a 3pt catch and shoot or broken play that leads to a layup, but the Rockets have no offensive consistency and it's been that way since 1997.

I like Battier a lot, but Rosen was smoking something when he wrote this. Battier scores on a drive once in a blue moon, scores in the pivot maybe twice in a blue moon, and scores on a turnaround jumper none in a blue moon.

Once his feet are set, Battier is a dead-eye 3-point shooter. He can take the ball to the rim with either hand (he prefers to drive right) and shoots best on the move going left. At 6-8, 220, Battier can also score in the pivot — he can seal his defender almost as well as Shaq can — and after affecting one of his tricky pump fakes, he's liable to shoot a turnaround jumper or a jump hook. But with T-Mac, Yao, and Ron-Ron on the roster, Battier's scoring opportunities are severely limited. Battier's handle is good enough for him to be employed in screen/roll situations.

Actually, Shane has a higher field goal percentage in the paint than Bruce. Shane has .519 compared to Bruce’s .439. Shane also scores 4 times the points in the paint than Bruce does.

We have a lot of underrated players on this board. Battier, Hayes, Alston, Luther, Brent before and now T-Mac.

Overrated: Brooks, Landry and rapidly Artest.

And how many times have we repeated the same things you've just said? He's a great hustle player that draws a lot of offensive fouls. A pretty good 3pt shooter but he's just that.

The point I am trying to make is that if when the media, commentators and players repeatedly say that Battier is underrated. He is being rated correctly, because people already recognise his underratedness.

There is nothing constructive about BrooksBall's "criticism".
