this is spot on. yao gave up 3 offensive rebounds in a row which brought the lakers back in this game.
Or Game 7 against the Knicks. Or game 1 against the Blazers. Or game 5 against the Paper Clips the previous year.
Are you serious??? No one's talking bout ONE game. He said just as many as olajuwon, overall, not refering to one game. You need to take your own advice and watch over a decade of Olajuwon as a Houston rocket. *****, i'm probably older than you...
uh...skip was actually doing stuff and sometimes did too much. shane is USELESS. a useless player is never a scapegoat.
And as much as I disliked what you wrote, just know that i wrote s-h-i-t and not some derogatory name towards you..
Thank you guys for schooling RV6 on Maxwell's clutch shooting abilities. I can add some regular season games like that miracle turn around and fade away from close to half court against the Heat, falling out of bounds and sinking a 3 against the Warriors, game winner against the Cavs, at least two buzzer beating game winners against the Spurs etc... The list goes on and on. Maxwell is also one of the few players to ever score 30 points in a quarter. At this rate it might take Battier 6 of 7 games to accomplish that. RV6's Battier blinders are always on and he probably didn't start watching the NBA until recently.
yes, you're right Kwame, it's only clutch when it's a buzzer beater now huh? Back in the other thread everyone was arguing that Shane didn't have to hit a buzzer beater to hit clutch shots, but now apparently when it's Dream vs Maxwell the only clutch shots that count are buzzer beaters....sounds like all of your arguments..
I'm a self-admitted Battier Hater, but regardless of kobe's stats, he played decent defense today. His offense is about what it has always been - inconsistent. Where our problem lies is this. Yao, Battier, and perhaps even Scola - are always playing as hard as they can. I love these guys, I really do. They represent everything that we should see in basketball on a night-in night out basis. But when other teams ratchet up the intensity, Yao/Battier/Scola just can't go any higher. Mentally they are solid (although Yao is questionable at times), but they are already at their highest gear. I think that's why you often see the fast start from these players. Yao generally has great games in the first quarter. But other players save the rush for the fourth. In the fourth Yao is gassed. More often than not, you see Landry coming up with the big play versus Scola in the fourth. More often than not, Battier makes good decisions but for every night like Monday where he hits a cold blooded three he misses a critical wide open one versus Utah. We need to recognize who has that extra gear on our team and use them in the fourth. Lowry - Von - Landry should really see a lot more of the ball to close out games.
Like I said, go watch that game. From your posts in the other thread, it doesnt seem you actually watched any of the games. All you know is that Olajuwon was a great player and you are making assumption of other players based on that. Maxwell had hit enough big shots in that game alone to make it career highlights for some players. As someone else has pointed out, he hit several other big shots for the Rockets through out his career. you wanna talk abotu defense?? Maxwell SHUT DOWN Dan Majerle. Dan was pathetic when he faced Maxwell. Hakeem carried the team but when it got tight he was double teamed and other players had to step up and hit the big shot, which they did. Your whole argument is based on degrading role players of the championship teams to elevate Battier. Shane battier will give you regular season wins. Just as he did in Memphis and he is doing it on the Rockets. Maxwell, Elie, Horry, Casell have resume filled with big shots, game winners, and championships at the stage which matters most. Like I said, stop embarrassing yourself. RV6, wake up and smell the skunk in your bed. ^^^
Battier's March numbers are probably as bad as anything SKIP (or even Ryan Bowen) ever put up. While averaging a ridiculous 34.4 minutes, Shane has put up 4.3 PPG, on 10-39 shooting, (3-29 on 3PG). 4.1 RPG, 1.9 APG, 0.7BPG. Even his +/- is terrible lately at -24 over his past 6 games. If Slow, Unathletic, poor shooting, and no handles = Intangibles, then he's got them covered. Maybe it is his foot that is the cause, but he's not an asset right now.
Zboy, Kwame, let me as specific as possible so we can all be clear about this. You two are saying that OVERALL, not in one game or one season, but overall Maxwell has hit more clutch shots than Dream? And you both do not consider any shot clutch unless it comes at the buzzer or within seconds of a buzzer??
If memory serves me correctly, didn't Max have close to 30 in the second half of that Game 3 @ PHO? I just remember him attacking the basket and draining circus shot after circus shot with the Suns players looking on in disbelief
You know your Rockets history. That performance was one of the biggest reasons Rockets won their first championship.
Nice, now you're avoiding the question because you realize that's not really what you meant. at least man up and say you were only refering to a certain time frame.
Allow me to man up and refer to a certain time frame for you. Irrespective of what you think of Maxwell, or any other previous Rocket players for that matter, the fact of the matter is that in the playoffs Battier has been a disappointment his entire career. When the season is on the line, time and time again he has failed to deliver. In the regular season he's great at help defense and good at complimenting his teammates' games. But in the postseason he just does not have the talent, athleticism, and mostly importantly the balls to be effective. And btw, you really should take ZBoy's advice and look for those '94 playoff games. Those were some great games!
I'm not even sure why you're answering a question not directed at you, which had ZERO to do with battier, and yet you still didnt even really answer the question..... You misunderstood what i was refering to from the start and decided to run with what zboy and kwame were saying, which made more sense based on what you thought the argument was about. That's fine, mistakes happen, but to keep going AFTER you realize what's really going on isn't helping anyone.
don't play that semantics game w/ me rook.....just apologize for not knowing your rockets history and above all else - go an find those '94 tapes!
So now i'm a rook? How old are you? I hope you're approaching a mid life crisis if you're going to refer to others that way. And you still haven't answered the question. It won't make you wrong or right to answer it. We would just have been refering to different time frames..
