It is a stats + popularity contest.

No big deal, surprised Battier/Ron even got recognized.

Heh, the 2nd team would hold their opponents to about 10 ppg less than the first team.

The first team would score more obviously, and some of that might be on steals and fast breaks.

Wonderful, one more thing to piss Ron off about Kobe.

LeBron deserves his award. He really has been very good defensively this year - elite even, and he is the featured defender on the league's #1 defense, always guarding the opposing team's best player.

Kobe on the other hand, that's just utter BS.

Kobe and Garnett do not belong on this list. Not this year.

It's funny how most of the guys on these defensive teams (except for Battier and, to a lesser extent, Artest and Rondo) are superstars on the offensive end and darlings of the league. Are these guys all so gifted that not only are they the best offensive players in the world, they're also beat the defensive specialists at their own game too?

Some of you guys are funny. You all are saying this is a joke yet you all wanted Battier and Artest to be on the list. Mind you both of them missed amount of time during the season. If ( oooh there goes that word again ) somehow someway they made first nba defensive team would it still be a joke?? No. I bet this board would be going crazy.

As for the poster who thinks Yao should have been voted over Tim Duncan. All i can do is laugh. I'm a Rockets fan yes but i know when credit is due. Duncan has been playing defense for years when Yao just started playing DECENT defense. Duncan rebounds blocks shots and all of that. Duncan is by far a better defensive player than Yao.

Are you sure you forgot to add since summer of 04 Rockets fan? Anyways, Yao is not the better defender than Duncan, but he should have been on the list. I didn't know they were going to even list Duncan as a center. I thought he was considered a forward in the league. That's why I felt like Yao got robbed. If Yao had the most votes and just missed the team, I'd be fine with that. But him only having 5 votes and having less votes than Vanilla Gorilla is not ok with me.

Duncan may have better defense skills than Yao, but Yao is more important in the team defense system.

Looks like coaches buy into reputation more than fans and media do. Kobe Bryant... It's not even funny at this point, it's sad really. Not a single coach has left him off both teams... :(

D-Wade should have definitely been First Team. The fact that he isn't is a joke.

Im sorry but you just confused me. Are you serious. When Deke ( damn i miss him so much :( ) came and played when Yao is out sometimes the Rockets defense is much better.

IDK if you only watch the Rockets or you watch the whole NBA but the Spurs really struggled with Duncan being hurt and having Ginobli out.

Very funny :D but Duncan is a forward. There center was Matt Bonner. The way the NBA is today it really doesn't matter what position guys play. You have PF playing the Center position and SF playing PF position.

I don't know whether you actually watch this year playoffs. I feel, like those coaches who voted, you make this judgment on the basis of reputation.

Chris Andersen not named to at least the 2nd team is an utter embarrassment, JUST DOWN RIGHT EMBARRASSING, people complain that Yao made all-star games earlier on in his career because chinese fans voted for him and this is way worse. KG like wtf just pisses me off

Hope Yao makes All NBA 2nd Team, behind Howard, but it doesn't look good.
