Good post haven. Obviously the Rockets need cap room that Shandon would take up, and he may not be everything that Stevie and Cuttino are, but Anderson is a solid contributor that would be a great asset on a lot of teams. ------------------
true, Good Teams need Good Role-Players. and I think Shandon's role on the team should be the 6th man, filling in at the 2 or 3. he provides some good D and hustle, qualities that are good coming off the bench. he did hurt us alot of games by missing the open j. his offensive game doesn't really fit the scheme of this team, and i think he'll even become less effective with the implementation of the zone defense. but i sure will miss him... ------------------
I think he did the best he could... What did you guys expect when all you do is stand and watch Stevie and Cat go one-on-one. He got all his points on fastbreaks, rebounds and slashing to the bucket. He is the best defensive player we had...maybe some of you don't realize how good he was... need to reevaluate guys... He will hurt big time, do you really think Cat can defend a guy like Kobe, look what he did to Antonio Daniels whose 6'4, we need a big defensive guard(hopefully in free agency). ------------------
i think cat WILL and DOES do a better job against kobe than shandn. let's not lose site of the half-century kobe dropped on shandn last season. and shandn had how many points??? and i don't think it'll hurt because we can find another mario elie that can't shoot elsewhere. really, what's worth more? holding kobe to 40 and you score 8 or holding kobe to 35 and you score 20? now which of those do you think shandn is capable of? which of those do you think cuttino mobley is capable of?
oh yea....I'M SUPERB IN THE OPEN COURT...and so is every player in the nba, cba, usbl, and probably a few hockey leagues. that, coupled with overrated defense, is not something to lose sleep about.
I hate to see Shandon go, but if he can make more elsewhere AND start, then more power to him. The Rocks CANNOT go through another season with Shandon at the 3, but he also doesn't bring as much to the 2 as Cat does so he shouldn't start over Cuttino, either. As the team now stands, and considering what it should look like after the draft and FA, Shandon will best serve this team as a defensive stopper and "energy player" coming off the bench. He hasn't provided enough all-round play to merit a starting spot. So if he can find a starting spot somewhere, then I say "Go for it" and wish him luck. And for those worried about Cuttino matched up against the likes of Kobe, Finley, etc., are you also worried about Shandon being matched up against SAR, Odom, Mashburn, etc. Luckily, Shandon wasn't posted up very often last season, but who's to say that teams won't start creating mismatches next season and beyond, especially without the shotblocker (Dream) on the floor. ------------------
Don't worry of Cuttino guarding Kobe, our SF woud take care of that Richard Jefferson. ------------------ chevrolet
Umm, verse who HAS stopped Kobe this year? We definitely need Shandon, and I like Cuttino and all, but no way can he keep Kobe under control. We need Shandon, he is potentially key role player on a very good team. ------------------ "I'm not here to protect my reputation, I'm here to make my reputation! Mama Barkley didn't raise no chumps!" - Charles Barkley
These are the times we need players like Shane Battier. He's such a well-rounded player. He's good in all aspects of the game. If we can some how trade up and get this guy, i think he would make a perfect replacent for shandon. but have any of you guys here heard of trading draft multiple draft picks to move up? i've never seen it happen. ------------------
No Big surprise there. Now we draft a SF and sign either Webber to multiple years or Olajuwon to a one year deal. It's pretty much a done deal from here on out. I don't forsee Cato being traded and Walt isn't going anywhere. The only wild card is if we trade up to get Battier or hold our position to get Jefferson. ------------------ humble, but hungry.
The best the Rockets have ever played in the Francis era was the end of the season the year before this past one. Mobley didn't start any of those games.
Anderson is superb in the open floor. It's just those wide open shots that he continuously misses that are holding him from getting the type of money he wants. ------------------
>> TheFreak << I total agree with your post. I love Mobes and all, but you can't get that kind of spark off the bench that he can bring too often. I would love to bring Sam "I am" back to the Rox as the PG and move Stevie Wonder to SG (unlikely though). Mooch at PG, Stevie at SG, with CAT coming off the bench I think would continuously pound the opposing team. Some (or many) may think this is a ridiculous idea, but I don't think so. Anyway, my two cents. ------------------ "...Do you hear 'em? They're everywhere!!! AAAHHH!!!" That's what the other teams will be saying after being shellshocked by Steve Francis and Co.
read my post again. no one can STOP kobe, that's my point. not shandn, not cuttino, not michael cooper. what you have to do is NEUTRALIZE and CONTAIN him. i'll repeat it: what's more valuable? i hold you to 35 and i score 8 (shandn), or i hold you to 30 and i score 20 (cuttino)?? ***************************************************** as for cat coming off the bench, no. cat and francis have developed a chemistry together. what we need is another "cat" off the bench. i don't necessarily mean another cuttino mobley, but another player with the cat-like ability to score in bunches. if i had my preference he'd be a 2/3/4 type player, but those are extremely rare - especially at a decent price. in the meantime, i'd take a flyer on joe forte and look at the possibility of moving him somewhere down the line w/a pick or so for a 2/3/4 combo scorer off the bench. wow, what a run-on that was....
Francis isn't moving to the off-guard spot. The reason he gave for not wanting to play for the Grizzlies is because he plays point guard, and they already had a point guard. ------------------
haven: it's only a grudge against shandn...insofar as two things: 1) as a starter 2) for starter's money and i think we (the bbs) are pretty much in agreement about that one. as a bench, defensive role player, at a couple mill per, i have no problems with him. anything else is ridiculous. as for him being better than cuttino, i did not mean to imply that you thought he was better than cat. i know you're not crazy. i'll take it that we had miscommunication on that one.... p.s. two more things re: grudge 3) as an alleged defensive "STOPPER" 4) as an alleged hardworker. that's all!
oh yea (damnit you got me started ), i don't see shandn and kelvin cato as being all that different. imo, they are in the same boat. 2 players with a wealth of talent, and no *shown* desire for improving their performance.
I think Shandon was good for the Rockets. He was willing to accept whatever role was asked for him, and for the people who seem to say he wasn't good or underachieved, are overlooking his defensive contribution. Maybe the Rockets can get him back. If not then so be it. While it would be nice to have Shandon back, we shouldn't break the bank to do it. ------------------
verse: Come on... look in my post and tell me where I said Anderson is a better player than Cuttino. I said he's a valuable player to have on the team. By now, I think that role is probably as a defensive substitution off the bench. But in that role, he's probably one of the better ones out there, as he can play hte SG or SF, and occasionally, can actually light up the scoreboard. Besides, as TheFreak mentioned, at the end of last year, Anderson really did light it up for a while. I think the guy's just schizo . In any event, Mobley doesn't guard Kobe better than Anderson, remotely. Mobley really, really sucks at defense. Yes, his offense is still going to be more valuable than Anderson's defense... but the word guard isn't correct at all. Kobe also lit up Doug Christie this playoff series... and Antonio Daniels... both excellent defensive players. Saying... oooh! Kobe burned Anderson really doesn't mean all that much. Your comment about Anderson's opencourt game was assinine. Yes, most NBA players are good in the open court. But Anderson's court vision in the fast break was excellent... he probably ran the break better than anyone else on the team. Even more, he always passed to the open guy, and didn't go for flash when something simpler worked. I really don't understand your grudge against the guy. ------------------ A few years back on the Senate floor... Phil Gramm: "If Democrats could, they'd tax the air we breathe." We got to have Shandon as the quick perimeter stopper.Don't you think! But whatever he's worth is that's all he should get. ------------------ Rudy T. will find and fulfill Rockets destiny.
