Did you know that Dumars was a hall of famer at age 25? Wait...did you know Dream was a hall of famer at age 25? Wait...did you know Jordan was a hall of famer at age 25? Wait...did you think Karl Malone was a future hall of famer at age 25?

My point is that Anderson is only 25 or so and to think that he won't be in the hall of fame is not right. You don't know that. And didn't know that when Dumars was his age either. Not saying Anderson WILL BE, but that is not a valid reason.

I compare them because the have the same type of game, they were both on teams dominated by PG's, they were both on teams with a hot SG on the bench capable lighting it up. Its just that I think we need Shandon in the starting rotation because he fits a little better with the "team" concept that Mobley who is more of a one on one guy.

I love Mobley. I think we really need him on the team. Hey, if they want to run a 3 guard rotation, thats fine with me. But, I still say that Shandon is more or less the "glue" that holds teams together. Its just something about his way of play that I like alot over Mobley's.

Just my opinion.

TheFreak: I agree, nearly all of those points were subjective. I suppose I was using a loose interpretation of the word "fact." I merely meant that most of those "facts" are pretty well-recognized. I'm sure a few people would disagree, but I think most would consent to those points. Sorry, I know I overstated my case a bit [IMG]. Rhetoric is fun [IMG].

I'm not sure Mobley is a LESSER player than Anderson, but I don't think he's as valuable to Houston as Anderson, yet. Even if one DOES think this though, however, there is a very good case that Anderson is still better suited to start. Mobley is instant offense, as 3pointer pointed out, like Sam Cassell was in the past.

It's simple: they both bring great things to the team and are arguably the best players on the team besides Francis. So here's a solution to this flamewar: START 'EM BOTH!

sorry for starting all this trouble guys, but i knew Cat when we both attended URI, not like he knew me, but i will always remember him. we all used to pick on his name when he was a young redshirt. he was too skinny to play, and we all thought he was a joke. Boy were we wrong!! it was all about the hope and promise of Tyson Wheeler, and Abdul fox the vetran.
I guess what Im saying is that I hate to see a guy like mobley getting relegated to the bench, and getting dogged on his D, and being called a "lesser" player. Cuttino Mobley has always been the underdog, and has never gotten the respect he deserves. i learned his ability to overcome 6 years ago. ive just got so much love for his game that i know he will prove to all of you that he is not only the better SG on the team, but one of the best in the game. give him 35 mins. a night and he will put up 20, 5boards and 4 assists this year. he did it last april.
i will stop preaching now.
again sorry for the trouble [IMG]

Voice: No problem [IMG]. Sorry I reacted so strongly, I've just been in tussles with Mobley-fanatics before. It's pretty cool that you knew him at college, though.

I don't think that Mobley will ever average 20 pts (possible, just not likely).... I see him averaging 17 for the forseeable future... not because he won't improve, but because other Rockets will be able to score as well.

I do think that Mobley is a talented player, but in the case of Mobley and Anderson you have two players who are clearly starting caliber. Of those two, I think that Mobley is better off the bench, for the reasons above. This isn't an insult to Mobley, just an attempt to divine maximum potential for the Rockets.

I know it's a year later, but all this talk of how bad the Rockets were when Cat started, how much better Shandon was then him, and how he couldn't score 20 ppg looks weird now. I wasn't posting at the time, but man this looks bizarre.

OMG! Shouldn't there be a rule that says a person can't bring back a thread that's been dormant for a year?

When I first saw the thread title, I thought, "Well, a thread in the wrong forum, AGAIN!"

When I started reading the posts, I was like, "Are these guys crazy? Did I go on some mysterious vacation in which the Rockets re-acquired Shandon?"

Man, I was freaking out for a minute there...I bet I could dig up a few "Why the hell did we get Francis?" posts from November of '99...

yeah, actually i was looking back at what was my first thread. i mean what irritated me so much that i had to start a thread.
yeah, the cuttio/shandon thing really irked me. it is so weird looking back now though, i agree.

this toppic, maybe not this thread was the staple of this board at the time though.

hell ive only been here a year, but when i joined there were less than 10,000 posts in the hangout and something like 40,000 in game action. and these guys who responded tpo my post are half gone from here. such a fast growing community, and so many new people to meet, but never meet

i bet i would laugh at some of those old threads from 99, bring em on

PEACE

You asked for it, VOR ;)

How about this one from September of '99...McGrady and Francis on the same team? Man, that's sick...

Of course, this one should be in the clutchcity.net hall of fame...
