I do think Shandon works hard but at some point during this season he lost it. He has 0 confidence in his shooting. What happens to guys that have no confidence in their shot? They go into a long slump. The last few games I've been to I watched Shandon shoot the ball and he just looked very uncomfortable. He's probably going through alot mentally with the family troubles and the shooting slump.

I wouldn't mind keeping him as a 6th man (which would be the perfect role for him), but if he wants alot of cash to be the starter he's asking for too much.

Personally, I think this thread is garbage.

That was Hakeem's stat line for the first half of the season.

And noone called him garbage, Wait they did, which is even more ridiculous.

For 2 million a year, 9 points, 3 boards, 1 steal, 0.5 blocks a game is not bad.

While i would love last season's stats(which i think with a fresh season he could pull off), these aren't TOO bad either.

No ZRB, the only way to get the guy to leave is to freeze him out.

BM, there's no such thing as a 'starting clause' in a contract.

verse, thank you, thank you, thank you. This is an awesome thread, I couldn't agree more.

I was just thinking back about Charles' comments about how the Rockets never had the bench energy that the Jazz had b/c of Shandon. How the team seemed determined to get younger by getting the guy to come on down to Houston.

It's interesting that Shandon gave up tons of Jazz money to come down to Houston. That seems to suggest a) where I live right now sucked for Shandon or b) where I live right now sucked for Shandon.

IMO, there's no such thing as taking a cheaper contract for a team that you've never played for before for 'loyalty' reasons. 'Loyalty'? Who in the hell was he 'loyal' to? He certainly didn't cut the Jazz any slack.

Example... I want to stay at home rather than travelling all of the time on the road. What have I decided to do? Well, for starters, I don't fly 4000 miles every week back and forth to Georgia. I make less money b/c of that decision. That doesn't make me 'loyal' to the company that I'm about to start working with... it means I'm choosing my own path. I've decided that, for me, money isn't as important as sleeping next to the Mrs. every night. Likewise, I think Shandon wanted to be in a metropolitan area w/ people that were more like him than the invisible 20,000 African Americans in UT.

That's nothing for Jazz fans to fault Shandon for. It's also certainly nothing for Houston fans to feel obligated about. Shandon made a decision. Kids make decisions every year to stay in school an extra year rather than coming out in the draft. Does the NBA owe them money if they hurt themselves or their stature? Of course not.

Pat Shandon on the back. Look at Webber and say "I understand why you're opting out Shandon, we've always appreciated the effort... thank you"... and don't look back.

Shandon, by all accounts is a perfectly decent guy. Plays hard, doesn't whine about his role and hustles. He also should not start for this team. He fades in and out of games (and seasons, really) like Robert Horry without any of his match-up advantages, versatility, or shooting touch from the outside. The salient point is that Shandon inhibits the offense too often because he passes up good shots, or misses them from the outside. And, by the way, if Shandon gets a $6 million a year deal he will be grossly overpaid and will likely get that general manager fired.

    TheFreak,

Speculation is the Devil is about talking about something you couldn't possibly know. We are not talking about merger/acquistions of dot.com's here....everything is in the open with plenty of experience to back it up.

Hey, if you see an NBA guard in his fourth season showing less ability to dribble than you could in high school, you pretty much know the guy did not dribble a basketball to school his whole life ... did not play keep-away with two hyper dogs chasing the ball ... nor practiced spinning at full speed over and over and over again, because he absolutely hates being dissed for losing the ball on the court.

TheFreak, you pretty much know when someone hasn't practiced something. We can look at Cato and KNOW his does not practice fundamental positioning like Duncan or Collier. This is not speculation like trade rumors...give me a break. The likelihood that Anderson does not practice dribbling over and over and over again, are very high. The odds that it is because he has a physical liability or stage fright are very low.

Like my stock analyst brother says, Speculation is when your imagination talks you into things. Investing is when experience shows you favorable odds.

Odds are, Anderson can't dribble, because he never really practiced it like most guards do who love to be a guard.

...speculation...yeah right, nice basketball argument there as usual.

heypartner, pretty sad how you spent all that time trying to redefine the term 'speculation'.

    spec·u·la·tion (spky-lshn)
    n. Abbr. spec.

Contemplation or consideration of a subject; meditation.
A conclusion, an opinion, or a theory reached by conjecture.
Reasoning based on inconclusive evidence; conjecture or supposition.

Come back when you can find some of your famous "Rudy quotes" about Shandon's work ethic. I could say that from reading your posts, it's safe to say that you do a lot of drugs...that doesn't make it true. Since "Rudy quotes" are all that matters, why don't you try to find a negative Rudy quote about Shandon. You're sure quick to dig up one of those "Rudy quotes" when it helps support what you're trying to say.

Achebe--loyalty is not what Shandon is showing the Rockets, it's what the Rockets are going to show him--for playing for less than he's worth--doing the Rockets a favor--helping the Rockets out--speeding up our rebuilding effort--all when we didn't have the money to give him what he was worth.

Odds are, Anderson can't dribble, because he never really practiced it like most guards do who love to be a guard.

    Maybe THAT'S because Shandon's a 3, not a guard. Duh! j/k

I think heyp's insults to Shandon are outrageous. Shandon can't dribble too well, we all agree. Must be his poor work ethic!

Of all the Rockets, Shandon's the last player I'd ever criticize for poor work ethic.

So after my project's over at the end of the summer TheFreak I wonder if the client will be so kind as to bring me back on another project at a higher billing rate? I'm certain that they'd be willing to, if I deserve it. Or if it was a good fit.

I don't want them to do anything b/c of 'loyalty'. I've met my ends... getting to live where I want to live. If I'm good enough to get the next project... sure. Just don't put me on loyalty welfare.

SA one of, if not my fav player on the team, but i know he's having an off year. Maybe he is struggling with the loss of his mother. Maybe he just doesn't mesh well here. But he is NOT garbage. You want garbage you turn to Walt or Cato or Langhi. Yes Langhi. WTF does airball Langhi bring to the table that shandon doesn't? A shooters touch? Whatever.

He plays better 1on1 defense than anyone on the court. Yeah, that's right. He get's burned, but so what? Other rocket's would get burned worse.

I don't know what is wrong with him offensively right now, for one reason or another it seems he is just not into it mentally. I'm positive he can turn it around, but I know he's not going to be an offensive stud.

If shandon IS garbage then MO is a piece of crap, and I dont know what the hell Langhi, Walt, Collier, and Cato are.

    Verse, you're an idiot.

If you don't see the value of someone who can play defense and contribute some points occasionally, fine. If you want to examine a shooting slump, and extrapolate it for the entire year, fine.

But please don't parade your ignorance in front of everyone else.

Go back to the little commericial, dunk-happy world you came from, and leave us alone.

shandon's d is sooo overrated, IMO. you say someone has to play d, right? well let's say shandon holds his man to his average (cause he DOES NOT hold his man below his average), and shandon posts a whopping 4 points and passes up on 4 open shots, and bricks 70% of his shots, and 87% of his 3s - who had the better game????

so you think shandon's play warrants MORE touches? a man shoots 30% and deserves more touches? [IMG]

a man passes up on shots which are open and created within the normal flow of our offense or brick them - and he deserves more touches? [IMG]

    what planet are you on?

so the chemistry between the 2 best players leaves shandon out to dry? yes, i'm sure that's why he can't shoot worth a damn. it's cat and steve's fault. [IMG]

what the he!! do cat and steve have to do with shandon not finishing drives, or not hitting open shots, or not hitting open 3s? isn't that what he's paid to do? as for the fast break, who would you pass to: a guy who could slam, layup, pull up, or shoot the trey...or a guy who cannot dribble, cannot pass well, cannot pull up, and cannot shoot the trey? his only chance is to shoot the layup. sometimes that's OK, but if i have another option, i'm passing to a player who is on MY team.

    G-A-R-B-A-G-E.

name 2 starting small forwards who shandon is better than. hell, i'll make it easier for you. name 2 starting small forwards or shooting guards that shandon is better than.

well, hell. why don't we just give him a year long paid leave of absence. go to bermuda and we'll pay you. you get paid. you bring your game. period.

as for cato, don't change the subject. shandon's on the pit right now.

    and he's sizzling...

I think it's bush league and punk to call another man a piece of garbage because you don't like the way he plays basketball. It's one thing to say that about Pippen because he had, and still has a rotten attitude, but to come on here and call Shandon Anderson, a good guy who is suffering through the loss of his mother a piece of garbage is just bush league garbage that makes me sick to my stomach. I guess I can call you a piece of garbage for coming on here and calling a Rocket player a piece of garbage right? G-A-R-B-A-G-E? It's pretty sad if you sat there and waited for someone to praise Shandon just so you could flame them. As for Shandon Anderson, he has been disappointing. I don't know if he just doesn't fit the system, or if he isn't aggressive enough, or if he just more comfortable as a 2-guard. It would be nice if he contributed more. You can't fault his effort, but sometimes I wonder if his mind is completely in the game, or if he just doesn't fit in with us, or a little of everything. All I know is the guy isn't a piece of garbage.

I would also add, that for all the people who have been down on Mobley, at least they didn't come on the BBS and call the guy a piece of garbage. I don't even remember anybody calling Cato a piece of garbage.

OK, easy one. Shandon Anderson is better than:

    SG - Eric Piatkowski, LAC
    SG - Bryant Stith, BOS.
    SG - Wesley Person, CLE.
    SG - John Starks, UT.
    SG - Mike Miller, ORL.

    SF - Danny Ferry, SA
    SF - Matt Harpring, CLE.
    SF - Billy Owens, DET.
    SF - Morris Peterson, TOR.

There, I named 4 of EACH! NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH NAHHHHH!!!!

Wow, what a response. I know I feel bad about myself. [IMG]

So, when Bullard or Wiz are in the game, what are the odds Shandon - and not Mobley - is in the game as well?

Even when Wiz started, it didn't last long -- Mobley would come in quickly to replace either Shandon or Walt.

I am sorry, jamcracker, I should not post because I do not have season tickets and cannot truly understand the intricacies of the game.

Anyway, the point of my post was not to say Shandon has never guarded a 2 guard, but to point out that with our 3 guard lineup he is most suited to guard the 3. He could certainly do a better job against Nowitzki, Marshall, Kukoc, etc. than the 6'3" Mobley.

i'm sure Clutch will correct me if i'm wrong, but Shandon's agent has already started talks that he won't accept the oh-so-small amount of the Early Bird Money.

    btw,

i don't know the guy personally. he is GARBAGE. if you can't figure that out, well, hey....

    Clutch:

yea, i get that. i believe in loyalty, too. but IMO, we displayed that loyalty by starting a scrub when he has not deserved it. we displayed that loyalty by keeping an all-star-in-the-making on the bench in favor of a guy who can't shoot or dribble. that's loyalty.

how can he return that loyalty? get some yellow cones. get a shooting coach. get a low $ deal for short years. or get lost.

    TheFreak:

in other words, you agree with me, but don't have the balls to say it.

    Mr.Scary:

"at least he hustles". OOOOKAAAAAAy. soooo, why don't we just field a team of IBL players? how bout we just field the Istanbul starting five?

we can go from being the Houston Rockets to the Instabul-Sh!tz

The problem verse is that you don't like Shandon so much that you're just getting nasty and attacking people. And if you don't believe me, look at some of your comments:

There's a fine line between not like the way a player plays and then taking personal shots at him by calling him garbage. And then turning around and snapping at people who disagree with you. The entire tone of this thread is just nasty and vicious, like you have a personal problem with the guy or something.

    Hoop-T,

I'd take Miller over Shandon. He is taller (would play the 3 for us). He is not as good on D, but is smart and improving rapidly. Recently, he has improved his game a good deal. For that potential, I would say Miller is preferable to Shandon.

Of course, I would love to have both and get rid of Williams. [IMG]

I agree with you rimbaud. I was completely wrong. Shandon is not tall. He never guards opposing 2's.

    Solve the following equation:
Shanon Anderson = Fat against Salary Cap

    Solution:
    Equate Shanon Anderson = 0

    Answer:
Free up salary space for REAL players who perform according to what they are paid.

I got an A for Math, anyone can see that?

    TheFreak,

TheFreak, take your logic away. I know when someone has not practiced something. And I know when someone has. Have you never taught anything. I use Rudy quotes to my advantage...duh!. That is not a heypocrasy about speculation, you idiot.

You know nothing about basketball, that is why the only thing you do in the game thread is look for heypocrasy.

Find a belief man...and learn to dribble the basketball.
