Oh my, do you always get this lathered up when you're wrong ? Since it is quite apparent that you are incapable of following a simple logic series, let me lay it out for you Sesame Street style : Shandon Anderson is a role player. As a role player, it is his job to do certain things - like play defense. In addition to that, it it the team's responsibility (stars like Francis and Mobley) to get him the ball where he can be the most successful on offense. Based on my (admittedly limited) analysis, it seems like Shandon has a better chance of shooting 50% when he is posting up 1s and 2s that are four inches shorter than he does hoisting 20 foot jumpers. p.s. verse TheFreak is right. Its obvious that you cant find one positive thing about Shandon. I am not all that pleased with him either right now as a player but calling him garbage and making personal attacks sure as hell wont make him play any better. ------------------ "Stop your grinnin' and drop your linen" -Hudson
Whether it will be here or somewhere else Shandon will excell. He brings the EFFORT every night and while he might not able to do everything great,SA is a pretty well rounded player. His D would be better taken advantage of at the two,but ..oh well..at least it's there, even if he's overmatched playing the 3 at times. This guy to me is important to this team's future. To say he's a piece of garbage is ridiculus.I look at how we are set up to acquire the interior help we need, realize we were completely overmatched without Dream, and instead of being so damn reactionary choose to look at the future.Lock up Anderson!I've said it before, this is the kind of guy championship teams need.At 5 mil/yr or so,I would call that a bargain,as far as his salary and it's relation to the cap. ------------------ If I had my life to live over,I would have liked to have ended up as a sportswriter - Richard M. Aww heck, I would take Mike Miller too, but the question was who Shandon IS better than. Damn technicalities!!!! ------------------ There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
<<I would also add, that for all the people who have been down on Mobley, at least they didn't come on the BBS and call the guy a piece of garbage. I don't even remember anybody calling Cato a piece of garbage.>> I called Cato a dog and thought worse (think disembowelment or a spot on the Atlanta Hawks and you may be close). I think Shandon, if not exactly garbage (hey, he doesn't whine and his Mom died this year), he is unproductive and wrong for the Rockets. I think "doing all of the little things" might include stepping up the offensive production when Hakeem, or Cuttino, or Steve goes out. He just doesn't produce at even a minimal statistical level for his position. Playing small forward and scoring under five points as much as he does is just unacceptable. It's like having a first baseman hitting .230 with 10 home runs and talking about the intangibiles he provides. Time for Shandon to go, sorry. -Elvis! ------------------
Hoop-T, Yeah, I know. jam, I really do not see the point of your pseudo self-degrading posts that are really meant to make me feel stupid. Shandon can guard the 2 and 3 well, but is better at guarding the 2 (Shandon is short for a 3, but still preferable to any other option we have). Mobley can guard the 2 and 1, but really is too small and not strong enough to guard a 3. Therefore, if both are in the lineup, odds say that Anderson should generally guard the 3 (except for situations where the 3 is so bad he requires no defense). Do you see things differently? ------------------ Whitey will pay.
Stand back! or get roasted by verse...lol HOOP-T, I think verse's point about "name another guard" is that he can name more bench players better than Shandon than you can name starters worse than Shandon. I'll start this one... At this point...no DOUBT...I take Stacey Augmon over this "garbage". If you want defense at the complete lack of offense, there is a lot better defensive specialists out there, who don't need touches to make their hardwork on defense seem worthwhile. Shandon can play D; he just doesn't bring it enough, and his intensity simple disappears sometimes. If you want to disagree with verse, then make a case for why Shandon is starter material. I don't think verse has any problem having Shandon on the bench for 15 mpg... and ya know, he is damn sure right about one thing: The guy clearly does not practice basketball in the off season like Mobley, Francis, Colson and Mooch. To me, Shandon's lack of dribble means he doesn't love the game I've said once before that I have little respect for an athletic 7'er who wastes his god-given skills by falling for headfakes, having absolutely no idea how to cover the court efficiently, or even how to shield a player...it means he doesn't love the game enough to practice. Likewise, I have little respect for an NBA guard who can't dribble and hit the open shot...it means he doesn't love the game enough to practice...over and over. All starting guards must dribble, and all starting guards must hit the simple easy open J at higher than 50%...there is no excuse for that....none! For the life of me, I don't see how this man made it to the NBA playing guard with those handles. Shandon's smooth athleticism is being wasted!! TheFreak, my lack of respect for this kind of non-practicing GARBAGE as nothing to do with my respect for the man. If he could dribble and shoot, there is no doubt in my mind the demeanor of Shandon would make him the True Leader we need on this team. By contrast, if he could dribble and hit the open shot, Utah likely never lets him go. [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited March 23, 2001).]
Ok, i'll be man enough to apologize for any attacks that came across as "personal" towards you guys. that's probably a result of it being friday, losing to the clips, and seriously disliking shandon's game. i'm sorry for that. moving onto shandon's game (or the lack thereof), and the GARBAGE statement so many of you have taken offense to. allow me to restate. shandon's game is garbage. shandon is not garbage. then again, i thought you guys would draw that conclusions, seeing as how i DON'T KNOW HIM. i must be talking about his game, not his person. i'll respond to you, individually, in a few minutes.... ------------------ Lt. Roastabotch reporting for duty!
...yeah, but from the BENCH, like Stacey Augmon. Now let's see your Sesame Street logic explain why Shandon is truly an NBA Starter versus a bench role player who wants to be overpaid.
If Shandon could dribble and shoot, he wouldn't have been a second rounder in the first place. ------------------ The sky is falling!
I think that part of the problem is the loss last night. Shandons problems were glaring last night against the M*Fu*kn clippers. If he would have had a decent game last night we would have won. They were not even guarding him at times. We need a good defender that is althletic to play the MJ clones that are around these days and he does a good enough job on them. But his offense, and ball has cost us enough. He needs to play better. Lets hope he picks it up soon because if he plays better we would be in the playoffs. ------------------ Tennessee is a suburb of Houston. Go Oilers....
RocksMillenium: while i appreciate the response you gave, do you have anything to say regarding the facts/argument i have presented? in other words, can you show me why he is not garbage? or is it just a matter of "hey, he is. but don't say it like that." ********************* while i have apologized for personal attacks at you guys, i wish you would attack my argument and leave my verbage alone. is he garbage, or isn't he? and why? i already told you why he is.
Big Bird Says : Shandon should come off the bench to play big D and earn low-to-medium dollars for doing so. ------------------ word to your mother
I sometimes think he must have been drinking before the game. He is horrible on offense. Let hope he start playing or else we are done. Plus what is ruddy thinking starting him. ------------------ Tennessee is a suburb of Houston. Go Oilers....
Whether it's Rudy or just a matter of Steve maturing,SA's ability to move without the ball has been underutilized in this offense.I guess it is a testament(as much as I hate to say it),to Stockton.I would hope with time we would see the finished curls and the post ups we saw there.I don't know, we are about to make huge frontcourt improvements that will make up for a multitude of defensive shortcomings.Besides we should be running more as result of said frontcourt improvs.Great team's don't start an all star at every position. They have guys that compliment each other...keep em ------------------ If I had my life to live over,I would have liked to have ended up as a sportswriter - Richard M. Cuttino Mobley 66 37.89 446-1029 43.34 339-411 82.48 77-214 35.98 325 4.92 2.41 1.14 .35 2.11 19.82 Shandon Anderson 69 29.81 220-491 44.81 106-146 72.60 38-140 27.14 301 4.36 2.46 .97 .52 1.64 8.46 verse - Pardon the crude display of statistics above,(i'm hoping clutch will clean these up) but if you will compare cuttino's numbers and shandon's numbers, on a per minute basis, the only significant difference is the amount of points scored. Shandon doesn't shoot the ball as much as cuttino -- but his 45% field goal percentage is more than respectable. I wouldn't give shandon a max contract by any stretch of the imagination, but he's not the garbage man you make him out to be -- like clutch, loyalty goes a long way in my book -- i like that he plays hard, plays like a pro, and keeps his mouth shut. i lost my mother in july of last year -- i think around the same time shandon lost his -- let me tell ya, it's still tough............. i can relate to shandon's plight this year. whether you think he's garbage is of little concern to him or many others on this board -- furthermore, the numbers don't back up your assertion. ------------------
I agree that recently, Shandon's offense has been poor, and that he should be able to improve his shooting and ball-handling by mega practice. However, I don't agree that his defense is over-rated. Well into the third quarter last night, I remember Odom being 3-10 from the field. The Rockets didn't loose last night because of Shandon's defense on Odom. If Shandon had not played good D, it would have been a blow-out. Also, I have seen Shan loose the ball on many occasions, but he finishes on the break much better than Cat or Steve. Trouble is, we don't run the break that often. Lastly, I don't like a lot of Rudy's lineups. For example, last night with seven minutes left in the game, we had a line-up of Bull, Walt, Kenny, Steve and Moochie. That's what I call a garbage lineup at a critical point in the game. No defense whatsoever. But he does like Shandon certain times during the game, so, I look for his playing time to pretty much stay status quo. By the way, does anyone else feel if Langhi had been worked into the mix and was getting 25-30 minutes a game that we would be getting much more offense out of the SF position? Also, Langhi plays with energy and moves his feet on defense. ------------------
Shandon can guard the 2 and 3 well, but is better at guarding the 2 (Shandon is short for a 3, but still preferable to any other option we have). Mobley can guard the 2 and 1, but really is too small and not strong enough to guard a 3. Therefore, if both are in the lineup, odds say that Anderson should generally guard the 3 (except for situations where the 3 is so bad he requires no defense). Only of Anderson's strength, IMVVVVVHO, is his ability to defend tall, long guards. Shandon, IMVVVVHO, is better at defending tall guards than anyone on our team. Who guarded Kobe? Who guarded Finley (he'd be a 2 now that they have Howard)? My favorite thing about Shandon is his ability to defend tall guards. We've got no one else who can do that as well as Shandon. One, very small positive thing for Shandon. He has guarded many tall guards this season.
