Only way I trade for Jimmy is if they plan to make JG play more PG and split ballhandling with JB and Amen… So that sends FVV to Miami , we get bigger at PG and add another size defender (FVV defensive rating is good but lawd he’s small)

The elephant in the room is our spacing. If it wasn’t for that I’d be right with you.

Almost any realistic trade involves Dillon who is quite literally our best 3PT shooter this season.

Butler in 5 of his last 6 seasons has averaged 0.6 or less made 3’s per 36.

This is similar shooting volume to Amen and Sengun, meaning he functionally operates as a non shooter.

What are we supposed to do with that? How much would Butler upgrade the team over Dillon really considering A. Dillon is an elite defender himself B. Is younger and more durable, C. Is our best 3PT shooter

We’d be banking on Butlers penetration offense and playmaking skills offsetting the spacing problem, which is exactly Amen, Sengun, (and even Jalen on most nights) current roles and dilemmas.

Jimmy Butler will bring toughness and his hot head into a locker room already full of dawgs and hot heads.

And no real experienced shooters other than Fred.

Folks see big name and don’t really consider play style and fit. - we can’t lose Dillion - we don’t want to trade Bari / Tari or Amen … JG for Butler makes no sense because it doesn’t move the needle enough to give up on 22 yr old JG

This trade would trend us backwards like the TWolves trade of KAT where they should of traded Gobert instead

butler had his chance to come home to Tomball a few years ago.

please do not follow through with this.

Not only that, but he's said he wants to opt out of that option next year to sign a multi-year extension. So we'd most likely be renting him for 2/3 of a season and lose whatever assets Riley would demand in return.

Hard, hard pass on Emo Jimmy.

Jimmy was on 4 teams in 5 years & traded away by 2 of them. Very few superstars have ever been through that type of team carousel. That's peak anti-Jew, flat-earther, non-vax Kyrie status.

I feel what "he plays his ass off.." overlooks is he was perfectly willing to challenge Spo to a fight on the court a few years ago...so much so that UD had to step in b/n them. There's work ethic, and then there's immature stubbornness and a rigidity that doesn't always take well to coaching. In spurts, his play can overwhelm those concerns. But as his game has declined so has his ability to offset the negatives.

Hard pass from me. IME is already the culture Jimmy would bring and Brooks is the player version. As most in this thread have echoed, 2-4 years ago and i'd have overpaid.

    I have two thoughts.

    1. This is about 6-10 years too late.

    2. He would just take away minutes from some of the key core players the Rockets are developing.

He makes way too much for the Rockets to trade for him. The Rockets would have to send out 4-5 players to make it work financially. Unless it was a straight FVV for Butler trade, but the Rockets need FVV more than they need Butler. Plus, I would say FVV is a better player in this stage of their careers.

The Rockets are also not going to be willing to give Jimmy one last big pay day so he would be a malcontent here just like he is in Miami.

Too little too late, Jimmy. No thanks.

For me it has nothing to do with how he would impact the team. It has everything to do with how often and for how long he could impact the team. He's often injured, and at 36, how many more impactful years does he have left when he's healthy? I 100% agree he would be a positive impact if healthy, I just don't think it's worth giving up anything at all for a 1-2 year rental that will be injured a large portion of the time. Additionally, his acquisition would greatly impact our ability to acquire a star that might fit our plans more long term should one become available. Do you know how upsetting it would be if we no longer had the assets to get a deal done if somebody like Anthony Edwards or god forbid Shai Gilgeous Alexander demanded a trade just because we went and rented Jimmy Butler?

And if I thought we were truly championship contenders and he could push us over the edge, I'd do it anyway. I just don't think we are a Jimmy Butler away from a trophy. So I'd rather hold on to our assets and our cap flexibility and hope and pray that a franchise guy who fits our timeline becomes available.

Nah, the more I think about it, the less I'm interested. If we're going to trade for one star, better be one who can shoot really well. We don't have any room for less shooting.
