It makes no sense. By the time sengun and amen reach their prime butler will be out of the league. If only he was 5 years younger.

NO! IF the Rockets had any sense Cam would be the starting 2 guard right now. They can have Reed Shepherd… and his “unrealized talent”

I mean, that’s my point. When they hit their prime, they likely will be our franchise players. Butler, hypothetically, bridges the gap.

I'm up for the right consolidation trade. The problem is, Jimmy is not worth guys from the core 7 at his age. Perhaps you can get him for picks and salary, but then you have even more too many guys.

Jimmy Butler is 35 yrs old and has a $52 mil player option next yr. He’s worth adding if you have a 2-yr championship window. Our window is just starting to open. I’d give up non-core assets because the playoff run would be fun, but nothing more. He doesn’t really solve our shooting problems. Nice to hear the rockets mentioned as a contending team though.

Heat's gonna have to give the Rockets 2 first round picks to even start a conversation.

Or he could be injured half the time, clash with the coach, and alienate his young teammates.

I suspect Miami just holds onto him and lets the season play out. Unlike some people I do think Butler 100% makes this a noticeably better team, particularly if the team moves Green to the bench. People acting like he's a negative asset are just salty about the past. I think there is value to possibly making a deeper run in the postseason than we otherwise would even if we still likely aren't an actual title contender.

The problem is cost. I'm not giving up a ton for him. He still doesn't make us title contenders this season, and he should be nothing more than a rental. One of the lesser first round picks and Whitmore is about the highest I would go and even that would give me pause.

Truth be told, anything that displaces Green as the teams primary perimeter scorer would make a big impact. The sooner he moves to the bench offense role he's destined for the better

There is no point in bridging the gap. If we can't win with him this year why make the trade?

The mavs trading for Jimmy won’t work because they don’t have anything to give.
The warriors trading for Jimmy could work but they would have to give up important pieces.
The Rockets could also work because we have a deep team and we have draft picks. But we don’t really want Jimmy if it’s going to cost a high price. We can give up Dillion, filler contracts(including Reed) with picks and we can still have a deep enough team. But I would rather not trade for him.

I mean, that’s maybe where we disagree. We’re currently third in the West without a true efficient #1 scoring option. Butler would provide that without having to dominate the ball — his TS% is .65. Not to mention is the man in the playoffs. I do think posters are underrating the impact he could have on this team.

I'd say, while not likely, it is possible that the Rockets could win with him.

I'd have no interest in keeping him or trading a FRP that the Rockets currently own. I'd definitely not trade any of FVV, Brooks, Tari, JSJ, Amen, Sengun, and Reed. Green and Cam would be iffy. Miami would have to be willing to accept a SRP and whatever the Rockets can get for Tate and Holiday and other flotsam needed to match salaries.

Also, Rockets would likely need to be very confident Butler would be opting out of his deal at end of the season.

In what season does trading for Jimmy Butler increase our championship equity?

This season? No, we have zero championship equity.

Next season? 36yo Jimmy making $50M/yr + 22/23 year olds? Still zero championship equity

Later? Jimmy will be either retired or an albatross contract.

If you mean winning it all, no addition will make that happen. Young teams with great talent almost never win on their first try. OKC provides two examples of this in the last 10 years. But, a playoff run, especially a deep one, offers invaluable experience for the young core and helps their development.
