Comforting to know that people still pay for this kind of paper and are not stuck behind the Paywall.

Silver lining pt 2: We could use the first half of the season to throw Amen and Reed into the fire, let them get their experiences and take their lumps, learning and getting better from it. Because of KD and Sengun we will still have a floor on how good we'll be, easily a playoff team. And then, by trade deadline time you can cash in some of that draft capital you'd saved up by getting KD for pennies, turning it around to acquire a Jrue Holiday or Derrick White to round out the playoff roster and keep us as contenders for this year. Salary would have to go out for one of those guys to come back, but even FVV could be the salary going out by the February trade deadline.

The KD extension is not yet signed. We still might need to have a decent season in order to keep him.

FVV isn't a star, but losing him for the whole season gives us a lot less wiggle room health wise. KD is bound to miss some games or be load managed due to his age. Amen missing even 15 games or so would be truly devastating with our lack of guard depth. Injuries can compound.

Exactly and he literally missed this exact glaring scenario that we ALL were worried about happening.
He almost even seemed arrogant about ignoring the questions or our concerns about a van vleet or KD injury

    If I’m KD’s agent, I’m demanding max.
If we were no longer the best contenders then you can’t play hard ball with me and I want my last max deal.

I would give them until Christmas (can’t move most players until Dec. 15th) so they can make whatever moves they need to make and after that I expect a max by new years, if it doesn’t happen, then I wouldn’t resign if I was him.

This is still business and unfairly or not, this situation just gave KD’s management the ultimate leverage.

If KD demands a max contract he can walk, as far as I'm concerned. This is not his team. I'd rather rebuild around the young guys and the Brooklyn and Phoenix picks.

From a fan’s point of view I agree with you.

but the problem is we effectively lose 2 starters for nothing now.
At this point FVV is at best an expiring contract / salary filler and KD would be nothing.

This is why I said, it gave KD’s management the ultimate leverage.
It not only screwed us on the court, but it screwed us with negotiations and GM moves too
