You once spoke Christian Wood into reality (at the time, very exciting to pair with Harden). What can you speak into reality? I have faith in you :p

Well... there was. If the Rockets had evaluated that he is going to be needed for at least another 2 seasons then he would of if the Rockets and his team met to extend him out on a deal that gave the Rockets more cap flexibility, and gave him years of guaranteed money.

To me this is not a great sign for Fred and his health. I'm glad from a fans perspective wanting to have that large expiring contract this year to maybe do something interesting with, but from a bball perspective as a fan I'm kind of bummed that the Rockets likely aren't liking what they see in terms of his health this year and next.

The Rockets simply cannot go into another season with this trackwreck of an offense. Looks like we are setting up for another season of watching Sengun and KD try to create something out of nothing around the half court under pressure with the worlds ugliest offense ever designed.

I just cannot recall another offseason where I've been this down on the prospect of having to watch the Rockets. I think they'll be good again, but this is just not a very enjoyable basketball product if I'm being honest. Not super psyched about this season.

    horrible horrible use of affirmations.

There was a reason he was bouncing from team to team and it wasn't based on his talent.

Sometimes the person isn't worth the player.

I really want TMIII on this team and would give anyone besides KD/Sengun/Amen to make it happen.

Fred + 2 FRP seems like a fair trade especially if Smart is coming.

    Amen / Smart
    TMIII / Reed
    KD / Eason
    Jabari
    Sengun/ Adams

looks like a very very good 9 man rotation, Trey Murphy/KD can slide 2-4, Eason 3/4 and Jabari 3-5.

if Bruce Thornton is ready for spot minutes he could be a nice warranty piece and would slot into the 1 and re-arrange others positions if Smart/KD/Eason/ Adams miss time.

I don't know who is going to take DFS at 13 mill after posting such a horrific season, unless we're offering a first.

My guess is it's Capela + 2nds for space, that or we're just letting Eason go.

DFS is an expiring contract. He is neutral value at this point and by the deadline he will be + value if there's a team who is out of contention and has a contract they want to dump.

Capela is negative value and i agree 2 seconds is probably the capital required to dump him.

I know his contract, I do not think he is close to being is neutral value. He is a vet min player making 13.3 million.

Cap space has been a premium this off-season, the new CBA is making salary dumps more costly. You are assuming that DFS will return to his career mean, and that others teams are also making that assumption, but he might just be completely cooked.

the problem is that we don’t have many 2nds to begin with. I think u hold onto DFS and see if he rebounds by the deadline. Agree it’s got to be Clint we move off. Never should have signed him to 3yrs guaranteed. Not sure what the FO was thinking. Wish we had just kept Jock. I’m hoping it only takes one 2nd to move off Clint given he’s only $7 mil but ur probably right it will take two.

if he takes capital to get off of, I do not think the Rockets move him.

I see him being salary for a bigger trade and draft picks will be involved but it won't be a dump.

For me, hoping the Rockets just hold onto the vets unless they are used as matching salary in a trade for someone actually good. The Smarts of the world don't interest me.

I don’t think he will be traded, unless a bunch of 1st round picks are attached. No to Leonard on the Rockets. Morey goofed up big time with Marcus Morris, but he’s too old now.

    Couple general tidbits:

1.) People are reading way, way, way too much into the IG and podcast stuff. That said, the combination of Fred opting in, being on an expiring contract with no NTC, and the extra ball-handling from Smart (if it happens) does give the team more optionality. I do think both the Rockets and Fred are aware of that. I don't think anything major is imminent or necessarily "likely," but speculation is reasonable.

2.) I would not expect Smart to be a S&T or NT-MLE, i.e. something that would trigger the first apron hard cap. They will leave sufficient buffer for Tari.

The athletic and stein are saying we're going to strike a 3 year deal with him tomorrow. These types of rumors have historically been pretty accurate for the Rockets, especially with that level of detail coming from multiple sources.

The Athletic says a multi-year deal, it doesn't say three.

Anyway, I could be wrong, but I have reason to believe that we do not want a first-apron hard cap. We'll see.

if this works I'd rather have Kawhi than Kyrie.

The quote directly from Stein’s newsletter last night:

“One of the strongest things we've heard all weekend: Houston's interest in Marcus Smart, which we reported Friday, is only sounding more serious.

The expectation of a three-year offer at a higher annual number than Smart's $5.4 million player option for next season with the Lakers has only led to more anticipation that Smart will bypass the option and become an unrestricted free agent Tuesday.“

Among other things - color me surprised if Smart were to turn down his PO to take just $12M/2 to come get fewer minutes and be a 9th man on a less competitive team than he was on last year,

The Wizards got AD just for Middleton's expiring and fake picks. Now they'll trade him to GSW for real picks. Fred opting in is good if we trade him.

Correct, that's Stein, which is one source and one that historically isn't that reliable (for much of the past month, they were pumping Houston as a JB suitor when we had less-than-zero interest).

I was just pointing out that it's not what The Athletic wrote, since the person above mentioned The Athletic first.
