I espouse the Van Gundy theory on this one. T-Mac and Yao need their rest, but everyone else needs to fight like dogs to win every single game.

If we're ever going to go the distance, we have to have some kind of depth behind our stars, and now is the time for the rest of our guys to earn their paycheck.

No excuses for Stro or Rafer anymore. Let Head develop. Give DW and JH a chance to establish themselves as legitimate threats on offense.

That way when our stars are healthy again, we've got a team.

But under no circumstances should we "rush" Yao or McGrady back to the court. Screw "these guys are people, too". From a strictly selfish Houston Rockets basketball perspective, it's short-sided to thrust players back on to the court before they're ready, only to have them reinjure themselves and make things even worse.

Live and die by what we've got, but if must be, go down in a blaze of glory.

Fight hard - win - do the best we can- the only way to let our young team get the right attitude....We owe it to Head, John Lucas III, Stromile, Yao, and this coach - play hard with effort-everyone in the league will wish they had heart like us....

You never stop flighting until the flight is flinished.
But really, you keep playing no matter if you end up in the lottery or a 5th seed. Teams jell that way.

Why all the flight jokes and no prepair jokes?

What is prepairing, anyway? Is that like making your NCAA brackets before the picks are announced?

The wording of the poll shows a bit of bias- it assumes that if we're not going to tank, we must rush Tmac and Yao back into the lineup, risking their health. I think that's the attitude taken by the pro-tankers (quitters) here.

Tanking (quitting) is more than a strategy- it's an attitude. It's saying that under the right circumstances, losing is okay. It's contagious and poisonous, it's a slippery slope that hard or impossible to climb back up. You cannot ever allow a culture in a ballclub that claims losing is okay under any condition.

We allow Tmac and Yao all the time they need to recuperate as fully as possible- particularly Tmac's chronic back problem.

In the meantime, we never allow any members of the team, the players, the staff, anybody, to accept that losing is okay or excuseable under the circumstances. The team goes to battle like warriors with whoever can play.

The euros showed us in the Olympics and World championships that solid team ball can win games over superior talent. I believe we can win some games even without our two stars.

We must fight in every game till the end but there is no need to rush T-Mac or Yao back.

The problem with this team and last year's team is that the preponderance of older players meant there was really a very small window for making a run. That window is rapidly closing since our vets are hurt along with our two stars.

I always think as professionals they should be playing to win everytime but at this point I think we got to start thinking about the future.

bingo. agree 100%. and to add to it, i would even design plays for swift among others and get at least 2 or 3 go-to plays that they have down cold so when tmac & yao return (next year), we'll be running on all cyclinders, and teams will not afford to cheat off of anyone. it also gives us a chance to evaluate talent more thoroughly and make a wiser draft decision based on our needs and who we intend to keep and get rid of.

Exactly...I'm glad someones on the same page as me. And just for those who are questioning...I'm NOT saying tank, but I am saying to take advantage of allowing our young guys playing time (FYI, JVG did play Head nearly 40 minutes one game, so this really isn't asking THAT much), because they won't get as much when Yao and TMAC come back. :)
