Good point, gr8-1. Hopefully Francis has learned his lesson and will ask one of his ho's to drive him home next time he's tearing the club up. This could have happened to anyone. We've all made some poor driving decisions (know that I did on TX-OU weekend). Stevie will learn from his mistake and will be stronger and more mature now because of it. He knows that he disappointed his fans. It's up to him to make it up to the community.
Man, what can I say. I look away for a couple of days, and BOOM everything goes to hell. Stevie made a bad decision. He's lucky that he's hurt. By the time he's ready to play, some of this media attention will have subsided a bit. He was finally starting to lose his national stigma of refusing to play for the Grizzles and starting to come into his own stardom. This just tarnishes it a bit. Hopefully he can figure out a way to deal with this. Otherwise, you've just seen the beginning of a VERY long season. (and you thought it was already bad...) Heck, after this, I'm thinking maybe JR Rider isn't such a bad idea after all. Maybe the Rockets can trade for Odom.
He shoulda been at home posting his "Its Saturday night and I'm drunk" thread instead. He wouldn't be in all this trouble.
Steve could easily have heard, as many of us have, that you never ever blow for the coppers. There could be a technical glich or police misconduct, and then he'd be totally screwed. Most lawyers will tell you that. The 'if you're innocent then you've got nothing to fear' line is overused and not too smart. I wouldn't submit to questions from the police without my lawyer if I were a suspect in a crime, and neither should you. Innocent people do get convicted of crimes...
Everybody just relax. Charles Barkley spit on a fan, threw numerous people thru numerous windows of bars... And, look, he's one of the biggest NBA stars of all time. This will probably do more to help Francis' image than hurt it, if you ask me!
It will be forgotten by April believe me , Remember when -Super Role Model , Married-with-kids-christian-man Eugene Robinson went out looking for hookers before the Super Bowl?? How about DeShawn Steveson and Anthony Mason looking for young girls . Jon Gruden and Charles Woodson got DWI's . We all make mistakes , I am dissapointed in Steve but I hope he has learned his lesson .
For someone who thinks you can get screwed being tested for drunkeness, you ought to be a little more realistic about drug testing. They are prone to false positives. Are you a strict RULE OF LAW type or what? Do you NEVER speed, or maybe charge something as a business expense that not, or...
No matter how you slice it, drinking and driving is idiotic. ESPECIALLY when you decide to get behind the wheel of anything (yes, even a skateboard), ESPECIALLY when you are rich, ESPECIALLY when you are a celebrity, ESPECIALLY when you are not the majority. (Stevie's *all four*!) I don't care if you're the pope, it aint worth what *could* happen as a result of doing it. Thank goodness Stevie's okay though.
Makes me sick that someone with the world at his feet could do something so stupid. You know dam* well he could have called any member of the Rockets organization and said he needed a ride and they would have taken care of him. OR better yet he makes enough money to have a body guard/chaffeur. Stevie is a great player who is a PR nightmare. I bet he won't be on the cover of any NBA playstation games in the future.
As is everyone who has speeded, jaywalked, or driving w/o proof of insurance in their care. By most any reasonable moral or public health ethical perspective drinking and driving is far more serious than pot use. Granted Steve is innocent until proven guilty, but if he was guilty it certainly was more.
