Martin's numbers with Houston last season were nearly identical to his pre-trade numbers with the Sacramento Kings, but he's just 27 entering the season and could start to ring up a series of career years." click on the link to see the rankings.
Oh well, Martin was bothered by injuries for the last couple seasons and he's a rocket... too bad. Let the game do the talking.
SF ranking from BDL: http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ba...0-through-21?urn=nba-264012#remaining-content Battier at 24 30. Reggie Williams, Golden State Warriors (last year: unranked) 29. Grant Hill, Phoenix Suns (last year: 23rd) 28. Carlos Delfino, Milwaukee Bucks (last year: unranked) 27. Omri Casspi, Sacramento Kings (last year: unranked) 26. Mickael Pietrus, Orlando Magic (last year: 29th, but at shooting guard) 25. Jared Dudley, Phoenix Suns (last year: unranked) 24. Shane Battier, Houston Rockets (last year: 17th) 23. Hedo Turkoglu, Phoenix Suns (last year: 10th) 22. Josh Childress, Phoenix Suns (last year: unranked) 21. Marvin Williams, Atlanta Hawks (last year: 12th)
My sentiments exactly. I hate Kobe and can easily see he is better than Wade. Wade fans can disagree but it doesn't change the obvious.
Kelly Dwyer is a good read, albeit a little crazy sometimes. Kevin Martin is a top 5 shooting guard. #9, Jason Richardson, had a great playoffs. But he also had a regular season, during which he averaged 16 points a game, along with 2 assists and 5 rebounds. Looking more closely, he also only averaged 2FTA's a game (all in 32MPG). KM12, by contrast, averaged 21PPG in only 3 more minutes, with 3 less rebounds and the same amount of assists. The biggest difference is in FTA's, where KM12 avg'd 8 a game. Couple these stats with age and bball IQ and I think Martin is clearly better. #8 Stephen Jackson is a little bit of a better argument, however, there are not any other scorers on that Charlotte team other than Wallace, which leads me to believe that his stats are inflated. My suspicions are confirmed at bball reference, where you can find that Jackson averages the same amount of points, 2 more rebounds and 2 more assists, but plays 5 more minutes a game, shot the ball worse and took 4 more shots a game. This is without mentioning both usage (the Rockets are a lot more balanced, and if they needed KM12 to do more he most certainly could) and TS%, where KM12 pretty much crushes most players in the league, 2 guards or not. Tyreke and Iggy are not 2-guards. Just because Sac starts a bench point alongside another guy destined to play point his whole career doesn't make him a 2 guard, and Iggy will be a 3 if he plays alongside Turner, or if he comes here #5 Manu is the only one where a resonable discussion could be had. Manu averages way more assists and rebounds relative to MPG than KM12, but to call him a step below Kobe is ludicrous. If that were true, he'd start. Call me crazy, but that kind of talent is on the bench for a reason, and the whole 'piece off the bench' argument for me doesn't cut it. Would it make sense to put Kobe on the bench because he'd be the best bench player in the league? All this aside, this one's pretty close, but the fact of the matter is Kevin Martin is the ideal 2-guard in the scheme of normal basketball positions, which is why he gets compared to Reggie. The top 4 are such because of their transcendent abilities on the court - they could play the 1, 2 or 3 (except maybe Wade because of his size), and can do anything on the court. But the other 26 ranked can't, and KM12 is hands down the best of the rest (which is in no way a dig on him).
