mooch will probably still see alot of minutes so i'm not sure how important the backup-sg spot will be with steve spending part-time there. i wouldn't mind voshon lenard at all though. byron russell could be a good pickup as well.
steve and cat play 40 minutes a game. that leaves 16 minutes for mooch. its not like we need another guard. maybe we shoul just develope oscar. it would be cheaper, and he could turn out to have a better season that vashon and bryon in a couple years. you know, right around the time that we are competing deep in the playoffs.
Smoothie:- Thats just what you DONT WANT!!! Francis and Mobley need to reduce their Playing Time. Do you want to kill them off? Or would you like them to play for many years and perform great in the Playoffs.Steve Francis has already had physical problems and we must not over play him! Big M:- Norris can be good only if he moves the ball up the court quickly, this means it MUST be the DEATH to 'DRIBBLE MANIA'. The coaches must give definite and regular direction to this death. This also should be given to the other Guards who also contribute to Dribble Mania. This style of Basketball was destroying for the fans to watch during last season, also it didn't win games, it did prevent basketball action, most times till it was too late for a decent open shot.Norris needs to come to the Camp this year in a state of fitness, unlike last year, where it took about two months of playing time to reach a decent level.
Cat and Steve need to average about 38 minutes a game. They play WAY too many minutes, as has been pointed out before in other threads. We need them fresh and effective for the whole season and especially the playoffs. All this talk about Steve playing backup SG ignores the fact that he should only do it within the flow of the game and as long as it doesn't add to his minutes. Whoever backs up Cat should be happy with limited minutes. Getting Cat off the floor will probably take Mr. Mean and Clutch the Bear, but it's better for Cat and better for the team.
I'm with BigM and smoothie, I totally don't understand why you're all so concerned about our backup 2. I suppose it's out of summer boredom. Look, we already have another 2 guard- his name is Steve Francis. We have a fantastic backcourt with Wink, Cat and Mooch splitting time at the 1 and 2 spots. Last season Cat saw time at the 3 when we went with three guards, but that won't happen so much this season. Francis can slide from the 1 to the 2, Boki can slide from the 3 to the 2, sign Oscar and let him have the garbage minutes or prove himself if there's an injury.
The total minutes for the 1 and 2 spots is 96. Assuming that Steve and Cat each has 38, which is probably the optimal for them (maybe a bit lower in the regular season). That means Mooch gets 20 a game. That's is too much, IMO. Mooch is a 15 min. guy. Somebody needs to play 5-10 min a game. OT is fine with me for that role. But. . . if somebody gets hurt, I'm not sure if OT can handle a bigger share. All the other guards, Mooch, Tierre, and Tito are 1s. Maybe we can bring one of the 3s (Boki?) to play some 2.
If Boki could end up playing some 2 (which we don't know yet, of course) that could solve a lot of our problems. I'm really anxious to see him play. But I'm still concerned about a backup for this season. I agree about Mooch. I don't want him playing 20 minutes a game. 15 is plenty, IMO.
