SG/SF combos - What do we want from these positions?

Yea, he was throwing up bricks and couldn't even make free throws. Yes, he's more athletic than Ariza with better handles, but he is NOT a shooting guard. Get us a REAL shooting guard, please!

 

IMO,iggy would be a great fit to RA's system,this guy is terrific in handling the ball and full with energy as landry.

 

From what I've seen this season, the Rockets are one team that can get away with not having a true SG. Battier and Ariza are able to defend most shooting guards in the league. For the smaller and quicker shooting guards, Adelman has the option of playing the Brooks/Lowry backcourt, with Lowry getting the defensive assignment on the bigger player.

As long as we add an offensively efficient/potent wingman, it won't matter much if he is more suited for SG or SF.

it wont matter for the bulk of the season, pretty much like it hasnt now for the most part since we still have a winning record. If we had Yao we'd have more wins as well, BUT we'd still have the issue we always have where brooks gets trapped and then no one else can move with the ball. It also does affect us in some matchups against smaller backcourts. You always want to have a complete team, it's like our center situation. We'd probably do great if we could clone scola and start the clone at center, but against the wrong team is could be deadly, so we still need that traditional big.

 

I want someone who is :grin: . I want someone who will not be a teammate. SOmeone that won't make the Rockets fan . If we get someone with all 3 of these qualities then it will be .

 

I agree. We do need to add a wing player, someone who can give us the offense we're missing with McGrady out of the picture.

I just think given the roster we have, there are just as many interesting matchup possibilities by adding a true SF as a true SG. As long as that player can create his own shot.

 

What do we want from these positions? I think what we want and what we need are two different questions. If it is a want question then sure I would want a Lebron or Kobe, especially if we are going to pay for a max contract. Too bad though it is not happening. What we need however is someone who can spread the floor, play great d, and definitely not disrupt anything we have going. We are still just a couple pieces from truly being considered contenders.
