Read the title of the thread. Francis stats this season compared to Sura's 04-05

    Francis: 7.3 PPG 3.5 RPG 2.5 APG 19.5 MPG 39% FG
    Sura: 10.3 PPG 5.5 RPG 5.2 APG 31.5 MPG 43% FG

This doesn't take into consideration the defense Sura played or the contagious energy he had.

But Sura had a whole season and was given quality minutes to produce while Francis just played 4 games and his minutes are slowly getting bigger. I say wait til the end of the season and playoffs to make a reliable comparison.

    Francis > Sura.

    Without a doubt.

Not exactly. Sura was just a poor man's Steve. Steve will be much better than Sura when he's in shape, and he definitely will.

Who are you kidding? Steve is the better player and when he gets into shape for more playing time, his stats will be better.

There is no real debate here is there?

He will be so much for for this time when the playoffs roll around.

It's crunch time that will see the most improvement for this team.

I know everyone's been drinking the Francis coolade--and I admit I've had a sip too--but please this is a good comparison. They both bring toughness and leadership, but Steve's conditioning is still where it needs to be. Its way too early to say Steve is better.

If you didn't now Bobby Sura before he came to the Rockets, then you aren't really a fan of the nba. It's not like he was a 12th guy on the bench before coming here.

Sura was known. He was a triple double machine and a good defender. He just always ended up with bad teams.

Sura played with Cassell at Florida State, and they beat out Alonzo Mourning in the '92 NCAA tournament.

Exactly, ex: right towards the end of the season before he was with us, he tore it up with the Hawks. Had like 3-4 triple doubles at the end of the year.

He wasn't an unknown by any means...

I agree but also note that Tyronne Lue thrives with the Hawks,

But I agree, if you didn't know who Sura was Pre-Rockets, you don't follow the NBA to well which isn't a bash or anything, a lot of people are like that.

Rockets fans just know Bob Sura, the gritty veteran leader.

"True" fans know BOBBY Sura, the slick combo guard from FSU and All-Star Dunk Contest participant ;)

Its getting sadder and sadder, my man...I'm betting you live this out in everyday real life too, being "Non-Francis" cuz its the one thing that provides any identity. How is anyone to take any kind of basketball commentary seriously from you, being so staunchly devoted to riding out the "Francis is no Franchise" stance? But whatever, and they probably don't anyway.

:D People tend to forget how good sura was on D. also he was a good 3pt shooter and a above avge rebounder. however on offense and off the dribble steve beats him to the cleaners.

    Overall steve>Sura.

BTW, Remember the Sura racist comment by the YOF's then?. that was hillarious i thought. everytime sura didnt throw a entery pass to yao, we had a chorus of YOF here calling him racist. lol

It's always funny how a white ball player than plays to the level of an average black player is seen as gutsy and filled with heart, while the average black player is seen as just another typical player? Bob Sura has not done anything different from what most black basketball role players do. He just simply stands out because it's not normal for white ball players to play like that.

Yeah we know all black players avge 15- 8 Boards -5 assists. or 10-5-5 . with the hawks he avge 8 boards as a guard. yes 8 boards. sura will go down as one of the more underrated players we've ever had. the guy was playing throw great amount of pain in the 04-05 season. yet he was our leader.

He led from the front everynight. i loved those ally oop passes he used to throw for tracy. man we had barry, sura and james tearing it up. miss those days. :(

Correction, Bob Sura 2004 = Houston Rocket Steve Francis. I'm not comparing their skills, but the whole heart and passion part. Way before Sura started tackling Mavericks, Steve was doing all that and some. But yeah, Sura was the last player we had that wouldn't take crap from anyone.
