Sunglasses? I was too busy looking at his shirt. It looked as if some kid drew on his shirt with crayons.
At last we hit upon the important stuff. If our franchise player wears bad sunglasses, a trade must be made now! I don't care if all we can get for him is a second round draft pick. Our team has no business having players who wear bad sunglasses. Steve answered honestly about Yao, and also said that he hopes that He and Yao will make their own legacy. That's classy, and telling.
Looks like summer's arrived a bit early for everyone. I rather have Steve honestly talking about Shaq over Yao. Since the question was framed to reflect current reality versus future, I think most people will make the same choice. Just becasue someone is teammate doesn't mean I lie through my teeth. Would anyone in right frame of mind take Cato over Shaq ?? Your answer should be same/similar for Shaq over Yao.
Ah...but when you are paid millions of dollars to lead a TEAM, and you are a team CAPTAIN---through success and failure---you stick to your team. You NEVER NEVER NEVER pick an opposing team's players over your own, especially if you are the leader. Now, the 13th man on the bench can say what he wants, because noone will care, but not the team captain, "franchise" player. That's just classless, and sets the wrong example. I don't care if he was being honest or not, he's a professional, paid a handsome some to be a team leader. He should act like it on and off the court, and DEFINITELY on national TV. There are a million ways he could have dodged that question and leaned toward Yao, but he didn't and that's why Steve should be dealt because you can see right through the veil of "chemistry" that he is trying to exude.
well thank God we finally got around to the steve bashing for his answers on the freakin budweiser hot seat. lets me know this is still the cc.net i know and love.
If Steve thinks that Yao won't be as good as Shaq, but he and Yao can be as good as Shaq and Kobe, does that mean that he thinks that he will be twice better than Kobe?
Francis is a classless puck. If they would have asked him who was better between Mobley and Kobe he would have clearly said Mobley. Francis is not getting traded this year haters. Deal with it.
So people call Steve a classless punk and in the same breath say they want him to tell lies? What am I not getting here?
They just want any excuse to bash; Francis says he wants Rudy to stay, it's because Francis is a whiny lazy prima donna. I shudder to think what the Steve-bashers would have said if Francis said he wanted rudy out: "disloyal benedict arnold calls for coach's firing on his deathbed!"
YEah, Steve should have taken a lesson from this guy : "Infidels! Kobe Bryant commits suicide every time he tries to fight the impenetrable wall of Cuttino's cat like defense! He has never penetrated our perimeter, NEVER!"
So if he was asked: "who would you rather have on your team, Tim Duncan or Eddie Griffin?" and he answered Griffin... do you think the reaction of this BBS would be a) Way to stick up for your teammates Steve!! b) He doesn't want Duncan on this team as he then wouldn't be the #1 option, would have to take less shots, defer to TD etc
Steve should have been committed if he had picked Yao over Shaq. Do you guys even remember the last time they played? Shaq killed Yao and will do so in every game they play against each other in the next 2 years or so. Newgirl, you need to learn to listen to the context of the questions before you become a smart ass: Q1 "If you had to pick one right now, would you go with Shaq or Yao?" (keep in mind that Shaq is still the most dominant force in the nba and that Yao can't shoot it over Dale Davis in single coverage) Q2 "Could Steve and Yao surpass Kobe and Shaq one day in the future?" Do you see the difference?
Steve tell the truth as he sees it, always has. Like it or not he was right about Shaq and Yao. Yao could be special, but we don't know how special just yet. He showed a lot this season but still has a long way to go, he isn't the Dream, he isn't Jabar and he definately isn't Shaq yet. Shaq is a proven commodity, an unstoppable force when he was in shape. Since he was asked which of the two he would take to start a franchise with he had to answer which would give him the best chance of being a contender. Given the choice between a proven stud and a promising stud you take the proven guy. This is the same debate you guys are always having between Richard Jefferson and Eddie Griffen and you all see to want to go with the guy who is hot right now... Steve was being blunt and honest, something I understand. If he were being PC he'd have to take Yao but he's not that kind of guy, and neither am I. Call it like you see it Franchise, if it hurts people's feeling then they'll just have to get better. Yao is a big boy, I don't think he'll mind being 2nd man to Shaq after just one season, ask this question again in five years when we have more to look at. I won't speak for his fashion sence. It looks like he just stopped by on the way to a cookout or something. He's doing a lot of TV this week. Hot Seat, Last Call, will be on the Best Damned memorial day as well.
