I believe ya, but just wait until you have a baby, it will be intensified more than you could ever imagine. That's how it was for me, it is just amazing how quickly you put someone else's needs/safety in front of your own no matter what.
Check out www.opensecrets.org If you go to their "get local" section and enter your zip code, it'll tell you who is contributing how much to whom. Pretty cool. I typed in my parents' zip code and found out my dad is funneling a good portion of my inheritence to the Republican National Committee. It's okay. I get him back by giving him birthday cards made by The Sierra Club. He HATES them. (Damn hippies!)
I'm sure it is different. I'm just saying that I know people who have kids who agree with me on this issue. Do they not want to protect their's as much as you want to protect your's?
I'm surprised that the SF city government doesn't have 'em ear-tagged like cattle. Same here, grew up in Village West, Hayes & Briar Forest. Only 1 sicko (that we know of) in 77005.
We herded them to the top of one hill in town. It's called Pacific Heights. Others escaped in a stampede across the Golden Gate Bridge to Marin county.
Only one guy popped up when I searched College Station, and he wasn't an adult when he committed his crime. I'm trying to remember if this guy was the student who was arrested last year for having child p*rn on his computer. Back home in Houston, there are like 90 living in my area, 77072 Alief. I should have figured though, since we all know what kind of people live in Alief. . . As for treatment of these offenders, man, I just don't know how I could ever trust a person who molested a child or raped a women. It's not my place to decide who deserves what, but does somebody who hurt a child in such a vile way really deserve a 2nd chance? What is the excuse for that? How can somebody need to LEARN that it is wrong to hurt children?
Didn't say that... I am sure it is the same. Not sure what you are saying that people agree with you on?
I'm saying that I know people who have kids and agree with me on this issue of sex offenders having to register and alert people. IMO, if you think someone is dangerous enough that they have to register whenever they move or enter a state, then they probably shouldn't be out of prison.
I found a listing on there of kid in my zip code (77536) who is not even 15 yet. I didn't know you could be tried as a sex offender if you are a minor. I guess it makes sense. Even young children can do irrepairable harm to a young child through abuse. In this kid's case, it was to a 6 year old girl. http://records.txdps.state.tx.us/soSearch/soDetail.cfm?ShowNav=False&dps_number=06598791
I'm sorry, but I just don't agree with that. There's no reason a 14 year old should be on that website. I'm not condoning what he did by a <B>long</B> shot, but come on, this is getting ridiculous.
I disagree...its much easier for a 14 yr old kid to mesh in with a group of younger kids than it is for a 35 yr old. The 14 yr old has access to places like schools that an older person doesn't. I have 4 young kids and I would definitely want to know if there is a kid on my block, (who plays outside with all of the other kids) who is a sex offender.
(cue bleeding heart music)... What's being lost here is that most abusers, especially abusers who are themselves kids, are on (or have been on) the receiving end of some big-time abuse themselves. At least that's what I read in the statistics. It's almost like a disease that gets passed on to victims. (fade out bleeding heart music)...
a guy I work with and go to church with has been working on this for a while. He has a juvenile justice ministry and this problem has arisen on a couple of occasions where kids, even as young as 9 years old, committed sex crimes and had to deal with registration issues. the person has to challenge the designation on the registration, as i understand it, and the court has some discretion one way or the other. i know my friend has been really frustrated with the way the current registration system has been set up. he feels its really unfair for kids like this, though he has no problem with registration for adults. he also has a problem with incarceration of children whose families lived in houston when he was 11 (and at the time of the crime) when those kids are incarcerated in el paso...away from their families for year...what is the product of that? how is that child ever normal again?
