I was on lurking on lakersground during the 1st qtr when Lakers were struggling. I was ashamed to come back here in the 2nd qtr when things turned around. Laker fans are way more supportive of their team.
Yup, and they know more about NBA history. They do care about their legacy and tradition more than 'newer' clutchfans. They know about the Dream too and they don't talk about players from Orlando and know who best represents their city. unfortunately they will pile on me tomorrow at work
I've been a Rockets fan all my life and I've supported this team with my time and money for most of my adult life. I'm tired of mediocrity. I'm tired of not having been out of the first round in almost 12 years. In that same time period, those Lakers fans that you speak so glowingly about have had a 3 peat and have lost in the finals twice. I'm frustrated.
Same here, rare loyal Rockets fan. It seems that the newer Rockets fans like to throw blame at everyone else except the players. Charles Barkley has nothing to do with all our first round exits. The irony of all this is that the last time the Rockets tasted the 2nd round or the WCF was when Charles Barkley was a Rocket! When older fans like us criticize the team, its because we want more. Our tradition isn't as great as the Lakers, but its still great. The Rockets team has to live up to OUR legacy, OUR bar is set REALLY HIGH. It's not the first round either. Hint, look up at the banners at Toyota Center. That's how the Rockets will be measured. Stop demanding respect from the media and start demanding the Rockets to play better.
The funny thing is in a chronicle article a few months ago they were comparing this team to the 94-95 team and they said this team right now is probably more talented...well I don't think so. We have a lot to prove before you can start making those types of assumptions and tonight just solidified it.
The whole aura of that team was that it was mentally tough. they were down on the brink of losing to the Jazz and the Suns, but they were so strong minded and tough, that it did not happen. Everyone on that team contributed whether it be Horry with key rebounds and game winning shots, or Mario Elie with strong defense and hustle. Remember we were down by 20 in orlando in game 1, but we came back guns blazing, we never gave up or looked lazy.
Yea and everyone doubted us as a 6th seed but we came though in the clutch. Thinking about what we have accomplished in the Clutch City days does make me feel a little better especially after this horrible loss.
Another thing about that year, was the 6th seed was deceiving. We had plenty of injuries the whole year, including many games without Dream. Then we had a huge trade, getting rid of one of our most reliable player, we had to adopt to his skill set. Drexler came to the Rockets while Dream was hurt. So we got the 6th seed, it wasn't because our effort sucked in the regular season, injuries, trades, etc. The whole league knows what happens if your team has a healthy Dream!
Just like to say I still agree with this post after tonight's game. It's going to be a few weeks before this team really starts to impress us on the court.
so some "older" rockets fans seem to be complaining about this thread...go figure. that just kinda proves that point that the thread is making. no one is saying that you can't criticize the players or want more from the team, they are saying different thing: 1) bringing in a player like ron artest takes some time on the court to put together 2) don't make judgments about a player or the team based on one or two games...sure we have the talent to win every night, but there's still never been an 82-0 team has there. to sum it all up, don't blow things out of proportion
