Seriously, Rockets can consider to get Bateer as a PF

I would also be glad if we can get Tyrone Hill or
other hard-nosed PF. Rockets need them to defend
    Brand, Gausol etc.

Spurs is deep in PF and Center. And more important,
Rockets only need a role player, not super stars
    or even stars.

We just need a big and tall guy who can keep Elton Brand from CONTINUOUSLY GETTING OFFENSIVE REBOUNDS. Jeez. We lost to the CLIPPERS twice this year. That is sad.

Yep. Chinese people want Chinese players. And I meant all Chinese basketball players in the NBA (only 3) are not aggressive. Wang Zhi Zhi is 7 feet 1 inch and he shoots 3's. He barely posts up but he did a nice move to the basket against the Rockets. And Mengke Bateer.....HE NEVER PLAYS!!!

The only good Chinese basketball player is Yao Ming.

I forgot that last year...lol. The Rockets didn't have a chance against most teams last year. We should be satisfied.

Sorry. I will shut up now and will not return until next week.

    Go Rockets!

I agree with most of your points, except Bateer. I think
he can be very aggressive. He is a strong Mongolian,
right? The Mongolian culture is very different from
    the main Chinese culture.

Bateer just turns into 27. And he is tall(6'll''), strong
(295lbs) with SKILLs. The line up in Rockets could be

    Steve/Moochie
    Cat/?
    Posey/Rice/Boki
    Eddie/Bateer(for strong PF like Brand)
    Yao/Cato

And we may convert Mo to SG

Good observation. You know what, Bateer played point guard for his team occasionally when he was in China.

If Mo Taylor goes to SG then his rebounding numbers will finally look almost respectable.

Bateer will never play for the rockets, though I wouldn't mind having him on the IR over Collie.

I was wondering about this actually.

I mean, I was just posting this other thread. Yao has really turned out to be WAY better than anyone expected. Is this purely a function of how exceptional Yao is? Perhaps. But perhaps it can reasonably be extrapolated that some of these other CBA players may really be able to contribute within the RIGHT system.

I mean, the Rocket CANNOT allow Yao to fail or they'd be the biggest laughing stock in the league since Portland picked Sam Bowie. Thus, he was given the time and leeway to succeed. ZZ and Bateer have not been given that luxury.

Y'know, I heard ZZ gave Yao fits every time they played. Yao was enamoured by his play and studied ZZ.

So is this a loophole that we can reasonably exploit? To get contributing players at a massive discount within the overpriced NBA landscape? If it is, certainly it is an avenue we should explore, regardless or whether the players in question are Americans, Chinese, Africans or Hispanics.

    It's purely a pragmatic propostition.

Hey...was this message board this busy a few years ago when we were a lottery team? I'm guessing that there has been much more traffic here since Yao arrived.

ANYWAYS. Bateer looks OLD. He's only 27? YAO IS ONLY 22!!! And I like Collier. Collier at least tries and he can kinda shoot better than Cato. He's just not as strong as Cato and cannot do the totally cool dunks that Cato can.

You know what, Bateer is a Mongolian lived on the rough
Mongolian Grassland. The weather is harsh and not good
to the skin. This makes him looked older than he really is.

Bateer is among the China Triple-Tower. His achievement
in China - BA is at the same level as Yao. And Yao can
    never dominate him.

As a typical Chinese player, Bateer is good at fundamentals,
and a good team player. He is not as tall as Yao but much
stronger and more agressive(at least in China).

I really didn't expect Yao could be so successful in NBA.
It seems to me he adjusted to NBA much better than Wang ZZ
and Bateer, and Rockets did give him a lot of opportunities
to prove himself. I think Bateer could an excellent role
player(if not a star) if he has the same opportunity.

Wang ZZ is wasted in Dallas. He should learn to be agressive
as Yao rather than practicing his 3-pt shooting.

I saw Bateer play once. That guy is super-strong. However, he is also slow as super-thick molassess. It didn't look like he would ever be more than a role player. He's fun to watch though, and it did look like he knew what he was doing as far as passing and moving the ball around and postin gup.

If The Chinese Triple Tower reunited in the NBA, they would probably dominate the boards and the game. They know each other so well. The only reason Yao is so good is because he is 7 and a half feet tall. They are all good in fundamentals. At the age of 14, Yao spent his days playing basketball. That's an easy job. Yao is incredible.

Bateer is on the wrong team. The Spurs had 7 centers in training camp. At least he wasn't cut. He could be a good consultant to the Spurs and tell them how Yao played if they played the Rocks in the playoffs. Yao is pretty predictable.

I think Chinese fans have too high of an opinion of Wang and Mengk. There is a reason they are receiving limited playing time this year.

    SLA,

Yao isn't good "only because he is 7 foot 5." And he is NOT predictable. Actually, his limited but growing post moves combined with his passing ability make him one of the most unpredictable post- players. I don't think you were bashing Yao, maybe you are tired after making almost 100 posts today?
