That a college major should be decided upon by whether or not you like its job prospects and not because you like that subject itself.

If I you like jobs typically held by history majors, then by all means, go ahead and major in it. But if you don't want to be a teacher/professor/waiter, then major in something else and use your free time to read up on that subject.

If you're going to do Quaaludes try not to over exceed your limit that's required on the prescription bottle and have a designated driver at all times.

I think the opposite...I majored in economics in college because I liked the topic...and it had nothing to do with me going to dental school after college. If you're taking classes bc you have to, then you will ultimately not make the most of it since you'll just be going through the motions. If you take a set of classes bc you actually enjoy the topic, you will get a lot more out of it.

You should major in a topic that you love, but take the pre-requisites for a job that you want to go into.

My 2 cents for this thread: Travel
There is so much to learn from visiting other countries/cultures...that's education at it's best.

If you are young, relish your youth. It doesn't last forever. Before you are shackled by the endless responsibilities that tie you down as you get older, travel. See the world and free your mind. There are endless financial benefits to being young when you travel, if you are willing to rough it a little. (In 1971, I spent over 6 months in Europe on about $1200 dollars, not including my flight to Luxembourg on Icelandair, which was the cheapest way to get to Europe then, unless you flew charter (I sold my return ticket, used the money I saved to stay longer, and flew back on a KLM charter).) While you're doing that traveling, go out of your way to strike up conversations with people from other countries. If you're a guy who likes the fair sex, focus on the girls. Damn near everyone who's young and traveling on a budget gets thrown together with other young people doing the same, who are also looking for cheap places to stay, and an amazing number are of the female persuasion. Young travelers are free of the past. There are few preconceived notions about who you are, so you are who you are at that moment. Grab that chance with both hands. You won't regret it.

Yeah, I could say that in 5 minutes.
