The Ugly came right after he retired when JVG style somehow made it to the finals and reaching 100 points was an achievement. But now... games are straight up unwatchable with load management, laissez faire defense, and awful officiating.
It was his playing ability, shoes, the Jordan brand, Chicago bulls intro song, and dominating everyone in the 90s except for the rockets. It was a fun time to be a basketball fan in the 90s watching NBA on NBC.
That's fair and I respect that conclusion. But as an old-head myself, who lived through and watched it, he didn't really overcome IMO. That's my entire point highlighting that he went 0/5 in Playoffs including 0/4 against the ageing Celtics and Pistons until he did finally conquer the Pistons. But only after the Bulls had an ATG coach, ATG Robin, and a 3rd all-star in Grant. C/P from one of my earlier posts in the thread: "1984/85 MJ year 1 - Loses to Milwaukee 1985/86 MJ year 2 - Loses to Celtics 1986/87 MJ year 3 - Loses to Celtics 1987/88 MJ year 4 - Loses to Pistons 1988/89 MJ year 5 - Loses to Pistons" He did indeed win where he was drafted. He didn't bail for greener pastures after failures. All of those things are true. But going 0/5 and 0/4 against the dominant East teams of his time eschews overcoming and tils closer to achievement through attrition. Do I think the mid 90's Bulls would have won the East repeatedly in the 80's? Yes, yes I do. 100%. But those 90's bulls had an ATG coach and off/on b/n 2-3 HOF's with a support crew of all-stars underneath. RE: He got his super team by waiting in Chicago and ofc in no small part through his own ascendency.
