    Redd/Villanueva

    RJeff/Villanueva/Gadzuric for McGrady/Cook

    Ben Gordon/Brad Miller

    Dunleavy/Murphy

    Carter/Simmons for McGrady/Cook

    P.J./Chandler for McGrady/Cook

    Hughes/Harrington

    Kevin Martin/Nocioni/Kenny Thomas for McGrady/Cook

    Amare/JRich for McGrady/Scola/Cook

I'd be most interested in Dunleavy/Murphy or a deal with Milwaukee getting back Villanueva and other parts.

I don't think Sac, Phx, NO will do a deal. The rest of the deals are blah except for Gordon/Miller. That would give us a nice backup big with shooting range to play behind Yao and another big time scorer in Gordon. Gordon would be a S&T. And Miller's contract is for one extra year.

I'm not going to delve too deeply into this topic while we're still in the playoffs - but I will say that the people who believe T-Mac has no value right now don't seem to have a good grasp of what is going on in the NBA right now. There are a great deal of teams hemorrhaging money. They'll be looking for financial relief anyway they can get it. A 23 million dollar expiring contract will be very desirable to these teams. I suspect if we look at those teams that are losing money in this dire economy, we'll find more than a few gems that could possibly be had.

i didn't know if you were serious. but either way...what are you thinking?

i'd trade all four of those guys or let em walk, 'cept scola. none will be allstars and none will ever be max level players.

TMac will not be healthy enough to play till next year. He may be ready for the month of February if all goes well in his rehab. Maybe the Rockets can trade TMac during next year's trading deadline or hold on till his contract expires. I don't believe he will even dress up to play even one game for the Rockets.

Concentrate on the next series, not random trade threads. We still have LA to beat!

I think some type of big man would be our best choice. Since Deke is out for good, we need someone to take Deke's role. IMO I thought Tyson Chandler was a good choice. Marcus Camby is also a good choice. I like David Lee, we could send T-Mac to NY since they might get Lebron in 2010, and T-Mac will be suited well for a NON-AVERAGE team with LBJ. I dont know. What do you guys think?

Geez fellas. I said at the outset that i'm not trying to distract from the LA series, and kicked off a thread and other posts to that topic.

It's just that the discussion of Tmac in the various threads caused me to think about this subject.

One can be thrilled about our matchup vs. LA, and simultaneously be excited about what the future holds.

I'm a season ticket holder and will be among the loudest Clutchfan at Games 3, 4 and 6, and games beyond. I'll shout down any LA Lakerfan wannabe that shows up in a Kobe jersey.

I am thrilled about our chances vs. LA, and even more excited about what the future holds. What's wrong with that?

I gotta head out but will reply to the folks that actually presented some interesting ideas later tonight.

Rockets v. Lakers = Rockets in 6, closing out the hated Lakers at the TC!

ditto. If anything going to the 2nd round tells me what a great team we have. We did it w/ a 20 million dollar hole in our roster.

What are our chances of winning the Lebron or Wade sweepstakes?

I had wanted to trade TMac next season as well, but I now change my mind.

    Here are the reasons:

    1. Team Consistency.
The rockets have been having major roster changes for far too long. Adjusting to a new superstar-ish player in such a pivotal role will be very difficult. Everyone has played with TMac and knows him. This is chemistry that cannot be underestimated.

    2. Difficulty finding a fit.
It's hard to match what we need. We ask for a superstar-ish player in exchange for TMac whose career might be ending not too far down the road. TMac is a player who is constantly injured. TMac will be a player who has undergone surgery, much like Grant Hill with his quiet return. This means other teams will not want to trade away their main man for TMac. Something else has to give. We don't want to give away anybody else except Brian Cook.

It's also very difficult to find another player who complements the rockets' roster. We don't need a player who shoots every shot he can get, we need a player like Paul Pierce or Ray Allen who can, withstanding pressure, make that 2-, 3-pt shot that gives us the edge at the critical moment. Whatever we can get for TMac, we won't be able to fulfill that role.

    3. Higher goal.
The rockets want to strive to become a much better team. If I'm not mistaken, we have a lot of talent that a lot of teams would want. Come Summer of 09-10, we want to have A LOT of options. Keeping TMac until his contract ends gives us a lot more options than trading him. Trading TMac means that we are limiting ourselves from the potential players we can grab from the off-season of 2010.

If we trade Tslack, it's obviously to save another team some money NOW. We can't just bring in big money guys. In a year, we have to re-sign guys who are underpaid in the grand scheme of things.

    In a trade, we MUST:

Bring back in the deal another expiring contract (so that we can pay Luis and Aaron and Landry in 2010)

    and/or

Trade away some of our low-priced talent so that the other team gets some value

So I don't know how many options that leaves us. Maybe if you set your sights a little bit lower than grabbing a "star" and just aim for those chemistry guys. Chemistry is the key. No prima donnas, please, no locker room lawyers.

    I'll throw out an example:

McGrady/Lowry/Hayes to Sacramento for Andres Nocioni (Argentine buddy for Luis, tough, good complementary player), Kenny Thomas ($11 million expiring), Beno Udrih (backup PG).

Or, if we simply want to concentrate on upgrading our PG spot NOW, McGrady +Lowry to Da Bulls for Hinrich + Miller (12 million expiring)

Why not just trade him for some expirings and some picks?

I just want to state that Tracy Mcgrady is actually not just a 23 million hole in someone's books. Because of his injury I think the team that owns him gets 70% of his salary back in insurance money. For a cash strapped team, thats an amazing deal.

if somehow Morey can get CP3 for TMAC, because Hornets are financially challenged right now, then he would be the greatest GM of all time.

Exactly. With the way the economy is going, teams who are not top contenders are going to be looking to shed salary.

Morey's going to need a third arm to handle all the phonecalls from GMs interested in Tmac.
