Do you think Sergio Llull has any trade value and if so what is it? From what I read, it seems he would want more money (3-6m?) and guaranteed playing time than what Morey and co. are comfortable giving - given the pursuit of 3rd star and cap flexibility. Perhaps we can offer him to Memphis so he can play with Gasol or Minny with Rubio or a Phoenix/Toronto? What do you think?
been asking this question for years. likely the equivalent of a 2nd round pick in value would be my guess.
Speaking of international assets, don't the Rockets own the rights to Kostas Papanikolaou from the Robinson trade? If I recall he was supposed to be one of the better prospects from Euroleague.
Trade Lin, sign Llull. 6'3 with, last I heard, a good scoring mentality. Might become Dragic-lite (Jesus, we're already at this point with Dragic).
Paps is likely on a larger $/yr deal than Llull. Young Euro players get huge raises when they transfer from one powerhouse team to another. Especially if it involves moving to a foreign country.
Wouldn't be suprised to see him moved to Philly this trade deadline..... Then signed and on the roster next year for them.
Papa has a 1 million dollar buyout this Summer I would expect Morey to pounce on either via trade or for the Rockets. Like Llull he's on a good team though so it's going to be a tough sell unless there is a guaranteed spot in a rotation for him here or to a team that's trading for him. However money shouldn't be an issue with Paps as much as it is with Llull because his buyout gives pretty easy access to the NBA if he wants to come over and an owner isn't cheap enough to use their cash allowance on his buyout.
Until the dude says he wants to be in the NBA the mathematical formula is: Llull Trade Value (LTV) = Jack / Squat In which: "Jack" equals what you're doing if you think he's coming over And "Squat" equals the pile of mess Les will get for Llull after paying $2.5 million to get the draft pick for him.
If you are Memphis and you have supposed interest in bring Pau back, does offering a 2nd rounder for Llull help during the pitch? If Toronto doesn't want to offer a big deal to Lowry, does Llull make sense? Was the Sixers GM high on Llull? The only way I see us using him is if we get our 3rd star and go over the cap to sign him.
Anybody recall any cases where a international player who's done very well overseas gets traded as a key or main piece in a deal?
Llull has value to those teams that might want to make him their starting or future starting PG when they trade for him. That's about the only way the Rockets, the team trading for him, and Llull's camp would ever all three come to the agreement that this trade is worthwhile making, and worth that other team making the huge financial investment to buy him out and give him the contract he needs to make it worth his while to eat some of the buyout money himself (keep in mind this is the biggest issue with the Llull buyout.... an NBA team can only pay a portion of it). The catch is it will take a team like ..... say for example the Knicks going to Morey and Morey going to Llulls camp to say.... "They want to make him a part of our team next year with a chance to be a star" and are interested in trading for your rights. Lets say Llull is intrigued with this, and communicates this back to his mgmt and the Rockets. Then obviously Morey isn't going to gift wrap a good player to another team. He then negotiates a fair trade to a team like the Knicks or whoever, and then once they have his rights, they can negotiate with Llull and Real Madrid to bring him over most likely this Summer or next. So yes, I do think its possible for the Rockets to trade Llull either this year or next because so many teams like .... the Knicks, Brooklyn, Lakers, etc. will need to bring in young talented prospects but wont have the draft picks to acquire 1st round talent this year. Llull and Kostas Papa. could be intriguing prospects to trade for with minimal assets like a 2nd rounder, or a 1st rounder in 3 to 5 years from now which Morey would DEFINITELY be interested in. -ANY other situation where Llull or another Euro prospect is traded is simply to be a trade chip where the value is simply to be a way to get a deal done under the CBA trade rules. Which in that case, you'd probably just be sending the rights to a player like Brad Newley because he's not a player ANY team will think about bringing over in the first place. If Morey trades Llull or Paps its because that team is interested in bringing him over at some point.
Since when has any Euro come over and been an instant success. Llull will have to adjust to the speed, the 3 point line, the culture, language among other things. To bring him over is a risk. Not a bad risk because he does have some game but if you have to pay him MLE kind of money it's a risk not warranted. And that applies to any team.
