My favorite exchange in the entire series: and Jayne's stupidity is always good for a laugh: Finally, Joss Whedon says in the DVD commentary that this is his favorite bit of dialogue that he ever wrote: You can find transcripts of almost every episode at:http://firefly.shriftweb.org/transcripts.shtml A bunch of them even include the translations of all the bizare Chinese curses.
"You guys had a riot on account of me? My very own riot?" That episode cracks me up. Objects in Space was another great episode.
There was also an almost continuious thread of predicting the future by River from the very beginning, but it starts out really subtley. The "War Stories"/Psycho River plot is continued in "Objects in Space". Oh, also Book isn't really a preacher.
Ah, that's right StupidMoniker. She did some nice shoot'n in that episode. I wonder how many secrets will be revealed in the movie. Obviously River's origins will be explored; and I read somewhere that the link between the Reavers and the Alliance will be revealed. But what about Book and Inara. What are they running from?
I thought from the previews this movie looked pretty lame, but I've never seen the tv series. I guess I will check it out now since you guys are pimping it so hard. I think it will flop at the box office though because there are no name actors in it.
This is why I'm going to see the movie. There are very few movies that are worth the price of admission, imo, so I very rarely go. The only time I'll see a new movie is if I think it'll be great and I can't wait(LoTR, Narnia, etc), or if it's at the drive-in. This movie doesn't fall into either category, but I'll be seeing it today. I know I'll be entertained, but I don't think it'll be a *great* movie. It may very well turn out great for me as I have my expectations low. But what I'm really hoping for is that Whedon gets the greenlight for more projects, as his stuff is quality.
The series is not just good....it is FRICKEN AWESOME !! The reviews for the movie have been great. Rotten tomatos is giving it 8/10 IMDB is 8.4 out of 10 All reviews have been positive..... Gonna be a moderate hit I think. Numero uno at the box office opening weekend. DD
Interested in hiring a temporary for the day? My roommate had a coworker burn all of the episodes on a CD and we started watching them the other night. I've only seen the first 4 episodes and am hooked. I can't believe they cancelled this show. BTW, Zoe is so friggin cute.
That's kind of how I feel as well. I think it will be a very entertaining movie, but I certainly don't think it will be some kind of sci fi classic like the original Star Wars or Blade Runner. Whedon is a strong storyteller and I think his main strengths are: (1) Funny, off beat dialogue, (2) willingness to break genre conventions, and (3) developing strong and interesting relationships among a good ensemble cast. The movie will bring one and two, which should please the average moviegoer. But due to the limited two-hour format, there is no way Whedon can pull off number three. (I say this as a person who watched the movie last night and is about to watch it again!)
I give it 9 out of 10.....a very good movie. But, after seeing it I want to say to Joss, Thanks you and screw you all at the same time. See it and you will understand...the man is a master storyteller. DD
I didn't know anything about the series but went with my daughter to see it early this evening. Outstanding. Very funny lines along with good action. Good rogue who's really a hero at heart lead and although I don't know any of the cast I thought they were great. The assassin guy was a nice change as a totally unflappable character. Definitely recommend this one.
Great !! Hayes, you HAVE to go out and get the 4 DVD collection of the 14 episodes, if you liked the movie, you will LOVE the series. Along with Band of Brothers it is the best DVD purchase I have ever made. Glad you liked it... DD
A+ Whedon is gold. I read an interview somewhere that said people have signed contracts for 2 sequals, so it looks like they may be trying to build a franchise off of it. The interview was linked by FARK a couple of days ago and was with Nathan Fillion, Gina Torres, and Morena Baccarin. Since Joss is working on Wonder Woman, I wouldn't expect a sequal soon though, unless he handed them off to David Greenwalt or something.
