Not that anyone asked, but I kept this pic as my wallpaper for about 4 or 5 months. IMHO, it is a great pic...
i watched a special last night on HBO of the event through the perspective of children who lost loved ones, particularly parents, in the event. cried like a baby. what a sick world.
It has been a tough 2 years. My best friend I have ever known is lebanese. she announced to me 2 weeks ago that she is moving home. she just cant take it any more. I am loosing the only woman i have ever concidered wife materal because of 9-11-01 its pretty sad. she is happy of cource, and i am for her because she is going to be happy splitting time between Switzerland and Beiruit. but I will likely see her only a few more times after she leaves. Its such a shame. she is a brilliant woman. has a masters from MIT she actually works for a defence contractor building underwater autonamous subs. she is actually an asset to this country, but she cant handle "Americans" anymore. I remember early on in our friendship comforting her as she cried. it was july 4 not sure the year. she was crying because the fireworks explosions brought back the war in Lebanon. brought back her house getting bombed. but now she is leaving America forever because being Arabic in America is worse than being in Beiruit under any condition. maybe some day w can all learn to love each other. Almu, looking forward to meeting you and Smeg in OCT. hang in there man, your daughter will have no memories of the attack, and she will grow us as "safe" as we did. lets just hope she does not have to grow up with the fear our parents had. duck and cover and all that cold war mess. peace
Just want to take this time to say............. R.I.P. "Girlie" Thakurdean, employee of Morgan Stanley, family member lost on that horrible day.............you have been greatly missed. And to all of those lost, from father Mycheal Judge of the NY Fire dept. to the "Lets Roll" crew in Shanksville P.A...........R.I.P. You are ALL dearly missed. United we STILL STAND.........for all time! Nuff said.
Just curious what does this mean exactly? Have Americans been saying stuff to her? Is it anything specific or is it just the whole media news coverage thing? Was it people staring at her? I, as an American, would never go up to someone I don't know regardless of race and/or religion and say bad things to them. There is a thing called innocence before guilt which our government seems to have forgotten after 9/11 ... especially when it comes to Muslim Arabs. Unfortunately, I think it's only going to get worse before it gets better. The terrorists are promising more devastating attacks to make 9/11 seem like a picnic or whatever. Try living in America as a Muslim Arab if that comes trues. Our government seems to be on the approach of if you can't identify and route out the real terrorists, then route out the next best thing. If an attack worse than 9/11 happens again, then all shiyat is going to hit the fan...I know that much. I doubt mainstream America is going to be as tolerant if it happens again. From what your saying, many already are taking out their frustrations and anger on innocent Arabs as is. We knew this was happening right after 9/11 but two years later you would think some people would come to their senses. Guess not.
Almu, Great words, my brotha. They have showed the events of that day on news specials recently and the horror of it just makes me cry all over again. The screams of people on the street while the 2nd plane veers into its target....damn.
a little bit of all of that. at first it was overt. now it is more subversive. she has found that more and more she has been hanging out with more and more arabs as others are either making them uncomfortable, or just not open to meeting her for face value. the media is something thats hard to escape though. I mean morning radio shows, nightly news, all kinds of stuff. its gotta be tough. she is in MA and not in boston, so maybe if she was in a city people would be better, but somehow the last 2 years have been a bit too much. missing her family of cource also is a factor, but it never used to be. I am going to visit her tomorrow. I am so psyched.
