This sounds remarkably like what everyone around here said when we got Francis for a steal from Vancouver. While I think everyone would agree that by aquiring Francis the way they did, the Rockets were able to bypass much of the rebuilding process, I can't help but wonder at the volume of people who are outraged that Francis was upset with the way he was treated on the way out. In short, while I'm sure that McGrady is more wise than he was at 18, he is still the same person. His natural temperment and the sum of his experience will continue to dictate his reactions to pressures and stresses. I think that if you expect his tenure here to be free from strife, I think you will be kidding yourself. When his first NBA contract ended, his first reaction was to change teams. It became clear that the same would have occured this time around. IMHO, as long as he is able to get along with JVG for most of another contract period, and eventually moves on, I for one, will not be too upset. To expect McGrady to be something he's never been, simply because he's in our town now, would be silly.
The guy averages that many points a game and didn't have much around him. Against a zone most likely for most nights. This is going to be a race from now for the best Rocket ever. T-mac or Hakeem Olajuwon. A couple of more scoring championships to go along with an NBA Championship sounds like a very dominating player.
Awesome trade, can't wait till next season, etc., but: = Anybody else think that "A Great Guy Who's Never Been in Trouble" should replace "T-Mac" as his nickname? I think it'd look much cooler on a t-shirt.
wow this is great stuff....it really changes how i feel about everything now. i am still gonna miss francis and mobley, but now i am really pumped about t-mac. i hope jvg can bring out that guy who was blocking 2 shots a game, playing lock down defense, and driving to the hole and going to the line 10 times a game. also i think its cool how tmac knows what it takes to win. you remember how he said he wanted to play with shaq too? he knows you need a big man to win and he knows its not all about him like some other star guards *KOBE*
So, the SCORING CHAMPION of the NBA has JUST decided to turn it up a notch? Congrats Rockets. There is absolutely no way he'll average 32ppg, however, if he gets himself in phenomenal shape, we're looking at 24ppg with EXCELLENT defense. By excellent defense, I mean some of the best in the league. Considerign the regualr drop players take inppg under JVG, it's safe to assume T-Mac will take the regular drop as well as the drop for finally not shouldering an entire offense and playing defense properly. I'm so excited. Tracy M-frikking-Grady.
You mean like when he told the Magic he wanted out, while really wanting to stay, and only decided that he really did want out when the GM didn't call him. Sounds more like the mind games that some psycho b**** of a girlfriend would play than the statements of an honest and straightforward professional. I am happy that we got McGrady for Francis et al (though I wish once he had said he would only sign with Houston that we had played hardball and pulled Mobes out of the deal), but let's not overlook his flaws and saint him just yet. I am just excited to have a much more talented basketball player, whatever his personal issues may be, so long as they don't rise to a Snottie Quitten or worse yet Eddie Griffin level.
Sorry, but I just don't see any guard ever making teams look totally foolish on both ends like Hakeem did.
Isn't this where The Freak is supposed to show up and point out that Rockets management once said the same things about the young Hakeem Olajuwon, chilling their relationship almost to the point of a trade? Humility, please.
From the calling to the informing to the Hill comments - it sounds like McGrady might be a little high maintainence.
I was expecting him to bash JVG for taking so long, and to say how Rudy would've made this trade last year and won a championship by now.
I'm glad Francis never made these comments. Talk about spin machines. You guys need to be in politics.
