I meant deficiency. He said who would become better and right now Mobley is better defensively and Sengun is better offensively, so their deficiencies are on opposite sides of the ball in comparisons to each other. However, I agree with your points. Mobley is going to be a defensive anchor but Sengun is different, he's doing things I haven't seen from a 19yr old since MAGIC. I'm not saying he's of that caliber but the kid is special
Ah, yeah, that's a good argument about their deficiencies. Thanks for clarifying! Yeah, Sengun has an enormous feel for the game and sees the game a way that very few his age have. I think other current comps are Giddey and Lamelo as young kids who have come in and shown some "Magic". Sengun is going to be in the Jokic/Lamelo/Giddey group of guys leading the NBA's best passers for the next 10 years.
They both have a long way to go. But Sengün's refined technique and game reading seem to be something unique. If this boy manages to adapt (even more) to the speed of the NBA, we are facing a unique player. He is a player with the potential to do everything right.
I think it's more of how Theis is a complete non-factor on the offensive end as a starter than it is a problem with playing two bigs at the same time (e.g. Wood and Sengun)
They are vastly different, but both efficient......will be nice to see how they develop. Sengun is a way better passer, but Mobley's speed and athleticism at that height are unique. DD
As good as Sengun has looked in limited minutes, Mobley is still a better player right now because of his freaky defensive versatility in combination with all the positive things he can do for an offense. We need to see what Sengun can do with 30 minutes per game to fully assess his true impact, but unfortunately as long as Wood is here that doesn’t seem to be an option unless he can start shooting a decent percentage from 3 at a higher volume to space the floor since Wood is only good at center.
It's pretty much "what if" Scola came to the NBA at 19, was a couple inches taller, more athletic, better defensive attributes, and a better passer. The guy is so similar it really is crazy. He's gonna have a long and productive career in the NBA for sure, and my guess is he becomes a FIBA/Olympics nightmare, and makes Turkey a real interesting team despite what happens in the NBA. Is he ever an All-Star though??... not sure, but he'll be pretty close for sure even if he never breaks through his draft day ceiling profile. Mobley though has the potential to be a top 5 player, and perennial all-star. His upside is way higher. Could be Kevin Garnett while Sengun could be Pau Gasol as his potential. The Rockets would be smart to see the AB/Lowry situation with Wood/Sengun, and move the better stats player now for the future much much better player in the very near future.
Mobley BBIQ is just as high as Sengun, but on defensive side. Reason he can play so many minutes so early in his career is that he can play elite defense without putting himself in foul trouble or turning over the ball.
My friend, if Scola had been taller, more athletic, with greater defensive attributes and with a better quality as a passer... surely we would be talking about a perennial all-star.
Our cover boy Green can't play defense, consistent offense, has a questionable BBIQ and seems to be nicked up quite a bit.
