Sengun is a black hole

Hate to say it, but I think Sengun kills the ball movement. I also think Wood is clearly superior than Sengun.

I understand Sengun has great passing skills and gets a ton of assists. But watching him run the offense from the high post is frustrating. He is not a 3-point threat. Most of the time people don’t really guard him from the perimeter. You simply can’t be an efficient high post playmaker if you can’t shoot.

When he gets the ball he either sets up dribble hand off with one of our guards or forces drives. The dribble hand off play is not an efficient play because Sengun is neither a lob threat nor a good finisher rolling to the rim so our options out of the play was limited.

When he forces drives, he picks up his dribble a lot. He gets bailed out a lot by his teammates’ great cutting and, to his credit, he made some great passes as well. But they are not crsip. Even when he scores after a million pump fakes I don’t think those moves are sustainable. He is not decisive with his moves. He takes too much time in the post. He doesn’t have a go to move and he can’t shoot.

I know a lot of people say he’s just 19 but he went professional at a very young age so it is not a surprise to me that he matures faster but that doesn’t necessarily mean a higher ceiling. Some players are really good immediately when they entered the league but never made huge improvement afterwards. I feel like Sengun is one of those players.

Based on OP's hit rate, this thread means that Sengun will undoubtedly be a future superstar.

I think the Rockets offensive movement sucks in general.

When Sengun gets the ball in the high post, even if he hasn't shown he's a really good shooter (yet) it's not like the bigs are sagging way off of him. When he is left open he usually does shoot or get the big to play up and try to drive.

    I don't think he's a ball stopper at all.

In fact I think the biggest ball stoppers are Wood, KPJ and sometimes Tate.
And maybe it's just we have different definitions of ball stoppers.
To me a ball stopper is a guy who gets the ball and holds it without really doing anything with it...

i.e. multiple jab steps or shot fakes without even dribbling...Or dribbling in the same vicinity without really going anywhere...Or just going straight into ISO mode and they are either driving or shooting a jumper...

To me it seems that Most of the time that Sengun gets the ball he is being intentional in the offense. He's either going to attack or look to pass or do a handoff...I think the offense flows well with him on the court.

Now one thing where I do worry about him is his length and lack of athleticism. Those are things he'll never have and his ceiling will be limited by those things. Not saying he can't be a great player, but he'll have to become extremely skillful/crafty to make up for it.

What do you mean "watching him run the offense from the high post" if only they let him do that.

I want Sengun to succeed. I like his game. I just don’t think he has a high ceiling.
