Sending Asik to the Sixers or the Celtics for little would've been a very risky proposition

!st of all meh, thanks for your thread. We were all wanting the trade to happen before the 19th so we could trade the players we got at the trade deadline. I don't remember anyone mentioning the fact that Asik could be traded at the deadline also, maybe back to the West.

Sarcastic or not dobro, you may be on to something with your conspiracy theory. Morey has been coworkers with Hinkie & Ainge. ;)

What was Asik doing before he signed a contract with Houston? That did not stop Morey from offering him $8 per year average. His current value is not evaluated by what he is doing now but what he did for us last year. Every tam in the NBA knows what he can do if given the minutes and that is his real value - just like what Morey did.

As far as winning, getting player X does not guarantee us anything unless you get a player who's name rhymes with ebron. Predicting that we won't win anything is not really a bold one as statistically, winning a championship is a very difficult thing to do.

It was never brought up as a negative because no one knew which players are coming back. If ask me whether I want Millsap and have Dallas get Asik, or keep Asik as his backup role, I'd take Millsap playing 30mpg even with Dallas having Asik.

But change Millsap to Bass/Lee or Spencer Hawes, and I'm not nearly as certain. The pick was the key point because if it's good enough, the reward of the pick outweighs the risk of facing a team that adds Asik in the playoffs.

The Asik flip to the WC could be devastating if he went to OKC. They are perhaps the best team in the NBA right now, but with Asik they would be pretty much unbeatable if they remain healthy.

The Rockets even without Asik have enough talent to get one of the top four seeds in the WC. With Asik they were able to go to SA and beat the Spurs - a team that last night beat GS without their top three players. I believed that none of the deals that were discussed, even the Millsap trade, would improve the Rockets. Houston has more than enough scoring, and adding Millsap to the starting lineup would not increase their PPG. Defense is the key. It would be wonderful if Asik could play tonight against IND and tomorrow against the Pistons. Those are two teams that Howard and Asik playing together makes perfect sense.

All in all I am not at all disappointed that Asik is staying.

Totally agree. I look at Omer as a reliable car that I got for a bargain. It's starts with no problem and it gets me from A to B without worrying it will break down. Almost the same relialibility as higher priced vehicles out there.

I don't have to trade or sell it unless somebody will offer me something I cannot refuse. For the meantime, I have the luxury of using it every once in a while to give my better car a rest.

My uneducated guess is that Morey wanted the Sixers' or Celtics own '14 first rounder, top 5 protected at the most. The fact that neither would go for that indicates neither were serious about using Asik to get better. Instead they both intended to flip him for assets at the trade deadline, and he'd probably end up on the Thunder, Blazers or Mavericks much to our chagrin.

I wonder if Morey trades Asik at the deadline, so that this scenario doesn't happen .

Or, is it possible to do what the Packers did when they traded Favre to the Jets (with a clause that would have forced the Jets to relay picks to green bay if they traded Favre to the Vikings. )

Perhaps Morey wasn't serious about Philly until after they could no longer flip him this season. If that's the case, he might get moved tomorrow. On the other hand, would Philly still want him if he couldn't be flipped?

Actually, Asik himself can be flipped regardless of the deadline. The distinction is that he can't be traded along with someone else. So if Philly got him, then he can't be traded with Young for Boozer at the deadline. But Philly can still trade him to OKC for Perkins and Lamb. Hypothetical scenarios, but you get the idea.

I think if Philly got Asik, they can get way more than whatever they would've given up to the Rockets, whether it's Young or Hawes(rumor has it they would not give away any picks). For example, Lamb, PJ3, and a 1st would be quite a nice haul for them from OKC while taking Perkins' contract.
