There are 2 kinds of trades: the kind of trade where one team takes advantage of another's predicament, and receives a dollar in exchange for 50 cents (Pau Gasol trade, Tmac and Landry for Martin); and then there's the kind of trade where two teams both benefit from the trade, where nuanced planning for the move takes place months and even years in advance, where both teams fill a position of need by trading from a position of excess strength. The former is by its nature unpredictable, but Morey has proven time and time again that he is among the best, if not the best, at the second type. We may not be able to rip off another team every season, but you can rest assured that Morey is better prepared to both rip off another team and make a mutually beneficial trade as well as any other GM in the league.
I don't care if people get frustrated with me, unless you can point to some facts that show he would have signed here, the point is moot. I am sure the Rockets wanted him to sign here, and he might have, but the fact is he signed back in Denver for more money, more GUARANTEED money than we could offer, which speaks volumes to me. DD
Denver's extension offer was $55M. He was waiting on more money from Denver. Once the Nets pulled out Nene lost leverage. Favor fell back to the Nuggets. They were able to keep Nene happy with more overall money but benefit from stretching it out over 5 years. If the Nets/Rockets had kept in play he would have had leverage to get closer to the $90M mark he sought and could only get from the Nuggets.
If we were to go for anyone wouldn't it be Howard? Shipping out Lowry would hurt our chances of making that trade. I think he'd be more inclined to come if Lowry wasn't part of a deal, but he is really the only player with trade value at this point. I say keep Lowry, keep playing hard and if we're not in a good spot with 15 games left, play the young and seemingly incapable, aka Thabeet
