I think it's a 3% mark up. I have a busy schedule, so the convivence is super worth it to me to just stop and pick up on my way home from work. Another advantage is I can meal plan and double check to make sure I ordered everything I need. The huge super annoying part is when something I order is out of stock and they don't sub it. Especially when it's a main ingredient for what I want to cook that night. Also, pictures are misleading. Once I mistakenly ordered multiple whole loafs of french bread instead of bolillos.
Kroger has the self-checkout with a whole long ass conveyor belt for you, or at least mine recently got two of them. You literally feel like an employee scanning and bagging all your stuff. https://www.wlwt.com/article/kroger-self-checkout-new-cincinnati-dayton-stores-groceries/39816047
Im so tired of being asked if I want to tip for people doing their jobs. A tip is meant for a waiter or server bc they get paid $2 an hour. Why is the donut shop asking me about a tip for retrieving the donuts I request? It’s one of the most infuriating daily things
I used to work at the Astros Box Office in the mid-2000s, there were folks there that had been in the box office since the Astrodome days. Sucks they can't do that gig anymore. I always told people the best way to buy seats and do a deep dig into available seats and customize where you are sitting (i.e. aisle seats, etc.) is to visit the box office in person during business hours on days the Astros are away on the road. There is no line on non-game days, and of course, no fees.
Meanwhile the store is just putting regular bananas for sale as organic and you're sucking on that long hard banana none the wiser.
I would always buy tickets to anything at the box office to avoid Ticket Bastards fees. About a month after moving to DFW, went to buy concert tickets at the Coca-Cola Starplex/Smirnoff Music/Superpages.com Center/Gexa Energy/Starplex/Dos Equis Pavilion and found that they didn't have a box office. Discovered that Ticket b*stard had an outlet at Cypress Bend Mall, so got tickets there...and still paid every fee I would have paid if I had just gotten them on line. F*** Ticket b*stard.
I sometimes avoid using self checkout since sometimes I don't bag my items and the stupid system always has a cow about it leading to delays.
All 3 of the Kroger locations near me just have 6 individual self-checkout stations - none with conveyor belts. Though I do know what you're talking about. Some of the Walmart neighborhood markets have self-checkout lanes with conveyor belts.
Must be nice. My ego is so fragile, I pack up and bail if I get even a whiff of head cashier-trainee vibes. Perfectly toned "don't put that there until.." or a huff when I alcohol or skip bagging when you can't. One time I got scolded for walking down to a real checkout for a paper bag. "We have bags here. Ask me first." Can't use it.
please return the item to the bagging area. Ignore and wait for 12 seconds for the message to go away. That’s Tom Thumb. My Kroger has like 12 self checkout stations. They do six typically unless very busy.
Back when I used to go inside grocery stores, I would never use the self-checkout. I use grocery pickup now, so I don't worry about it. I use it at Home Depot and Sam's, though. Not sure how much it helps at Sam's, though, since I never have to really wait in lines and I still have to have the person at the exit check my "receipt" on the way out.
Only use self checkout if I have a couple of items. If I have a cart full there’s not enough room usually to bag everything and leave it there and not get that warning. If you accidentally double scan something have to get someone to come remove it. Same if you find the price higher than you thought and you want to remove it. Wish the self checkout had a price checker. Maybe it does and I’m too dense to figure it out. My rant is why did my local Walmart removed all of the price checkers except for one obscure one next to the dressing rooms in the middle of the store. Maybe they were getting damaged?
If they want me to be a cashier I need to be getting a salary. I am not into costing hard working people jobs because a mega corporation is too cheap to hire enough workers.
Hate self checkout. I'd be forced to fire myself for the bad luck I always have scanning ****. I do bag my own groceries (using both hands) since the cashier did their job. Side rant: I hate when someone unloads their basket one item at a time...I want to tell them, "Hey, you got two hands."
During this past holiday, there was a tip jar that I wanted to put in for the holiday except..... I didn't. Because when I handed the checker the money to his hand to pay for the food, he handed dollar bills and coins on the counter. It was an easy closed wallet for me.
