His wiki entry said he had already had a leg amputated and they were going to remove toes from his remaining foot. Diabetes sucks.

 

Didn't know this. That's pretty sad. I've met some people who are extreme diabetic. I don't know much about diabetes, but couldn't you get like a diabetic attack (much like a heart attack)? I was working at a place when I was younger and this dude came in and said he's diabetic and needs sugar asap. He was beyond pale and sweating all over. I got him some drink with extra sugar... but the whole thing was intense. I thought he was gonna die.

I don't know what these people are going through.

 

maybe Kevorkian is right, dying isn't a crime. it's a persons right to choose to live or die especially with a disease like diabetes.

 

Kevorkian was right. If someone with a terminal or severely life affecting illness wants to kill themselves, it should be their right.

 

I was hoping it would be.

 

If you had a legal choice, maybe you wouldn't screw it up and make a mess for someone else to clean up, and then have to live as a stigmatized invalid.

That's some sad irony.

Wonder if they went ahead and cut off his toes in the ER?

Agreed, it is annoying to see media mislead, no way does this guy represent the seinfeld store, I remember the character, but the stars of the show are obvious.

If people really get annoyed by a random headline calling this guy a Seinfeld star, I can't imagine what else would annoy those people.

 

I last remembered him in that show Malcom in the Middle. Really sad story to hear. I hope he recovers and gets himself some help if he hasn't already.

 

Certainly you can go into diabetic shock. But it's not just that. It's kind of a slow killer generally, in the sense that people with diabetes live on average meaningfully shorter life spans. My father-in-law passed away from a heart attack at the age of 59. He was a diabetic since his late teens. People with diabetes are something like 2x as likely to develop cardiovascular disease and nearly 2x as likely to die from such disease.

and all kinds of other diabetes related issues (like having limbs amputated!)

so yes, having diabetes sucks.

Sorry but it sorta pissed me off to think that I might be reading about Jason Alexander, Michael Richards, or Julia Louis-Dreyfus and instead was reading about a guy that was a bit actor at best on that show. I'm sorry that Mr. von Bargen's life is in such shape that he went these measures. It is a tragic story but I think everyone knows that more people would read this story due to the misleading headline. ESPN does this crap all the time - so I guess I am one of "those people". I also get annoyed by people that drive slow in the fast lane and people that post song titles/albums first and then the artist.

 

How about the Chronicle headline?
