Seems Yao has no intention to leave Houston in the future.

It is hilarious how little some of you guys actually get it.

Everyone...and I mean EVERYONE...who knows and watches basketball says exactly the same things about Yao:

    1. Tremendous offensive talent.
    2. Great footwork for his size.
    3. One of the best passing big men ever.
    4. Poor rebounder for his size and strength.
    5. Not quick enough to stay with athletic big men.
    6. Foul prone.
    7. Not agressive enough on the floor - doesn't have the attitude to dominate a game.
    8. Needs to improve his hand and upper body strength.

I mean, this is universal stuff. Ask writers and players who watch him play once a week or guys that see him play every day. They ALL say the same thing.

This is a guy with tremendous skill, but a real lack of quickness and agressiveness - both requirements for dominance in the NBA.

This isn't some anonomys poster on a BBS. These are some of the most well-respected beat writers, columnists, players and coaches to ever watch the game all saying the EXACT SAME THING. So, I'm trying to figure out how criticism of a player - something that has been validated by many, MANY other people who know more about basketball than probably all of us here put together - translates to being a hater.

That is one of the weakest and most useless arguments in the history of arguing. You criticize so clearly you hate him? Lame. You know, denial isn't a river in Egypt.

That's unfair generalization. I think only very few people were arguing that speed, stagima, strength, aggression are Yao's problems. He needs to get better, no doubt about it. Nobody ever calls you a hater, nobody would be ignorant enough to admit that criticism means hatred, maybe some act so. But being critic is a thing, constantly accusing him as heartless, wussy, p***y, whatever name they call, and the non-step new trading for scrubs proposals is another thing.

Yao is far from a finished project, that's why he was a rookie two and half year ago. We all want him to prosper in the Rockets. After a bad game or two, everyone is willing to discuss his performance. As fans, we should give credit where credit is due, criticize whether it's lacking of energy or skills or smarts. But calling names aren't going to cut it. I have to admit, giving excuses only and blaming others are not right either. But Yao plays under expectation is a fact, and there must be some reasons. Lots of discussions involved are exloring different possibilities, not just excuses. On the end, we are not the one to play and we are not the one to pay salary.

Some fans like Yao more, they don't take some harsh attacks very well; some fans don't value Yao that highly, they have problem to see his play or lacking of, and they are annoyed by some of the irrational Yao fans. You are the admin here. You can easily go to the database and do a search, how many people ever called other hater, how many people were actually called haters by other posters. I would bet both percentage will be very low. And your generalization could increase that percentage. JMHO.

I'm feeling guilty about bringing in all this hate and ruining a nice thread about a family restaurant. Let's be fair. Yao's had good games and bad games. On average, he's been ... eh ... tso-tso.

That's because Will is not only one of the most well-balanced posters here...EVER...he is also one of the most well-respected. The guy is a professional journlist for crying out loud. He is honest, fair and, above all else, knowledgable about the game.

That is why is seems so ridiculous to see the vitriol thrown his way over what was clearly a really funny joke that some took WAY too seriously.

    You're kidding?

McGrady is averaging a career high in assists, and AST/TO.

Meanwhile Yao is now averaging half the number of assists he did his rookie year, and half a turnover more than he did last year. Those things have nothing to do with McGrady.

Yao's coming off an 8-5 foul out performance against a clearly inferior center, and he looked lost the whole game. What do you expect people to do? Shower him with warm fuzzies?

The Clutch Crew sure is evil. If I could figure out how to use the Report to Moderator, I surely would use it.

I never thought that I would argue with clutch crews and especially Jeff for such a length. But anyways, for arguments' sake, I don't know Will, and you guys know him well. Therefore, you guys supported him based on his past records. For similar reason, some Chinese fans here have followed Yao for quite long, they know him better from a personality perspective. He is anything but lacking of heart or passion for the game or team. Because of culture difference and language barrier, he may not express it the way some expected, but calling him no-heart certainly offended some his long year fans. Just like you think it's ridiculous some of us, including me thought some comments from Will isn't appropriate as a clutch crew member at this critical time.

Honestly, I never saw him play before he entered NBA, and I don't have chance to watch too many games because of my residence. As a Rockets fan since Dream time, plus the Chinese bond I am certainly his fan. If he's on X team, I would be Rockets fan and X team "fan". But having him in Houston is the best thing for me. My point is, no matter how you became a fan of Yao or Rockets, they have a common goal, to see them success together if Yao is still on the team. Any dispute, always involved both sides, there are faults at both sides. It just doesn't make too much sense for me, to clarify which one is 60%, and which is 40%. If the goal is the same, why can't we just get along, and wish the best for the team.

You are probably right, I might take it way too seriously. It perhaps has to do with whether, mood, timing, and frustration etc. Cheers.

Isn't making mistakes while aplogizing for mistakes a serious crime? ;)

Yao is not a Max player, at least right now.

I have read posts from both Jeff and Will before. I do not think I respect Will's opinions as much as I respect Jeff's.

Will is a professional journalist for crying out loud. So what? Barkley is a professional commentator and he kissed donkey's rear. Is not that really funny and ironic?

Oh, i am sorry, i should say Mcgrady the NO 1 player in the league, all his great archivement is nothing to with Yao, his number is well deserved, and Yao is trash, his number going down is nothing to do anybody, all by himself, because he sucks, lost and simple can't do anything good for rockets, happy now, jerk.
