if it's not worth it, you can uninstall it and go back to IE

we're not twisting arms here, dude... (not too much at least)

here are a few pros and cons....

    PROS:
automatically blocks pop ups (no google toolbar needed)
tabbed browsing (more pages in one window)
you can download new 'themes' (different looks)
    built in google search
not as buggy/security issues as IE
it's the cool thing to do

    CONS:
some flash and java apps don't work in Firefox
slight learning curve for tweaks and tricks
can't update/change link icons (at least i don't know how to yet)

Dude, it's just one minor security vulnerability that was patched an hour after it was discovered. And it's the first notable vulnerability I can remember for some time. Plus, it's really not so much of a Firefox problem as a Windows problem. Feel free to go back to IE and its unpatched security vulnerabilities, pop-ups, and spyware, but I'm telling you, if you use Firefox for an hour, try out tabbed browsing and pop-up blocking, I'm sure you'll never go back. Not to mention all the problems with IE that I mentioned above.

Let's not forget that IE still isn't patched against the problem that was exploited last week, and their workaround doesn't really fix it.

Do you mean existing link icons still open up in IE?

You might be able to solve this by setting Firefox as your default browser, or if you have xp sp1 installed you can use "set program access and defaults" and set Firefox as your browser default.

I would add the other "con" that it doesn't keep my cookies, so I often find myself having to log in to sites relatively often.

But the tabbed browsing and pop-up blocker alone is worth it. It sure seems like Firefox runs faster than my IE did, but that may just be because I'm not having to close pop-ups all the time.

Firefox will render pages faster than IE. For cookies, you can go to "Tools->Options" and then "Privacy" on the left. On the right-hand side of that window, there's a "Cookies" section -- open that and it will give you some options on how to deal with them.

I've messed with the cookies a lot, but I haven't been able to solve my problem.

What pages do you have this problem on, and what is the problem specifically?

Like any site that would keep a cookie that woudl keep me signed in to a site - the ClutchFans BBS, for example, doesn't keep the cookie for an extended length of time. Every once in a while, I have to log-in again.

In Internet Explorer, if I sign in to Amazon.com, for example, I can not run IE again for several months only to fire it up, go to Amazon and still be logged in. With any of the Mozilla versions, I have to log in again every few days, at most.

A friend of mine has the same issue with Mozilla browsers (including Firefox), so it isn't just me.

I have actually run into that same problem when surfing this board with multiple windows/tabs.

Say that I am reading a thread, and there is a link to another thread...I click it, and have to relog in to view it.

Minor inconvienance...I dont have a problem with having to relog in as long as I navigate the board thru the same window/tab as I have been using.

overall....I use Firefox exclusively on every machine I have, and have been installing it on all the machines at work.

Major kudos to Vengeance for being so fanatical about spreading the good news. Keep up the good work. :D

As far as clicking the link to another thread, if you look at subdomain, you'll see that at times you come in as "bbs.clutchfans.net", then link to "bbs2.clutchfans.net". I suspect Firefox does this prevent some kind of hijacking or some other hack.

Those are the same addresses, but I'll assume that you mean different domains (and/or subdomains)....if that is the case...cookies are stored according to site and location on the site (folder), so if you got to bbs.clutchfans.net that is different from bbs2.clutchfans.net.

I assume that is the case b/c I'm looking at my cookies and I see the same cookies (cookie names) for bbs.clutchfans.net, bbs2.clutchfans.net, bbs's ipaddress, and bbs.clutchcity.net.

That happens to me only after I have cleared my cookies and logged in to, e.g., bbs.clutchcity.net and then there is a link somewhere to bbs2.clutchfans.net. I think you need to log in separately to these two...

didn't think there were many flaws with it, although no browser is entirely free of flaws.

I haven't figured that one out eithr, whatever is an "Internet Shortcut" under 'Type of File', will always open in IE

Firefox is set at the default browser
FireFox is set as the default program for htm and html files

but these links are something else and they aren't listed in the application 'File Types' list either, I dunno how to set it so Firefox opens those things
