I would not say 'right' way . .but *a* Way I Like the improved Post Game but It is like learning to write with your left hand. . .then never writing with your Right hand again You have to let him use his COMPLETE GAME Rocket River
Interesting thread. I like the comparison between this team and the mid-90's Rox. While they are similar and it often looked like the mid-90's Rox just ran the same play over and over, Dream post and plays a two man game with a 3pt shooter, those Rox teams also had guys who could create when things broke down. MadMax and then later Drexler opened things up, Horry was a lot more athletic then and would take tough drives into the paint, Elie would also hit a tough shot with time expiring on the shot clock and the D shutting down the other options. Finally one hallmark of Rudy T in the 90's was an 'X' factor of a high energy player, usually a guard, who would come off the bench late in the game and bring much needed energy and hustle late in the game. Scotty Brooks and then Sam Cassell filled those roles. The players I see on the current Rox who could best fill that role to me are V-Span or Jon Lucas III. One of the things that have killed the Rox this season are third and fourth quarter runs by the other team. If JVG can hold one of those high energy guys in reserve and then when the Rox look like they are flagging bring him in to rally the team and finish the game you might see more consistent play in the second half.
While I don't think Battier is as bad as you think he is, I do agree that Head has to be given the green light when we can't get it to Yao. In the 4th quarter, the reason we came back was because we winged it on offense. Head was doing what he can do even though we have not seen it often because he always has to run a "play". Head is a very talented player that can beat his man off the dribble(Kobe). Our guards do not seem to be allowed to improv at all. I think Vspan, Rafer, and Head should all be allowed to improv if they think they can make a good play. Rafer can penetrate better but he is not given the chance to. Some of this may fall on the players for settling for jumpers but they are all quick and decent enough playmakers to make something happen. Just give them a chance JVG like you did at the end of the LA game.
Agreed. If Yao can hit that jumper from 18, then I say let him do it. It would make him so much more dangerous, and would solve our problem in the 4th quarter. Yao is getting mugged of his shorts in the paint late in the game, because everybody knows what he's going to do... On Bonzi. There were some post plays set up for him, and I remember one incident where he lost the ball. The only good aspects I saw in his game was rebounding and hustle... We don't need a Ryan Bowen at this point...we got batman. He still isn't ready get over it.
Pretty much agree...but I'll (hopefully) take it one step further. When there is a double/triple team during a play, the player whose defender leaves to double needs to dive to the basket. This happens about 1 in 10 possessions because we have standstill shooters instead of drivers, slashers and finishers. When the double/triple occurs before the play, the ball needs to be reversed to the weakside...the quicker the better. Since the stongside is overloaded, there is at best 1 on 2 and frequently 1 on 3 on the weakside. But this again requires that you have drivers, slashers and finishers. I've never had a problem with Van Gundy's offense....only the skill sets of the personnel they've selected for the roster. The old cliche is absolutely correct...when the outside shots aren't falling, move in, drive, get to the FT line. The assumption being you have players that can!
Yes....yes...YES.... Cutting to the basket....Hayes is the only one who does it consistently, I would like to see Battier do it some too. DD
He's active all the time, which helps him get layups. Over 50 percent shooting isn't bad at all. Hayes is the least of our problems right now.
This is exactly why people have been complaining. Assistant coach's offense doesn't call for this. Then he goes in the CHRON and says the offense calls for too many 3's after they lost that game after shooting 38 3's. We'll hello! The bad part is, he wont change it. Will not. You, I he, and the rest of the fans see that these guys can play, but he has a control freak Danny Ainge Syndrome that it has to be robotic or not at all. Make no mistake, Rudy utilized his guys much better, and they ran a Doc Rivers type system more than this kind of offense. The thing about Doc's system is, you can win with a dominant big man. With Assistant coach, no Tmac, you struggle. You see no offense should only revolve around one player to be successful. Why? Once something happens (and anything can happen) and you don't have an alternative plan, you are screwed.
The problem is that JVG doesn't stick to the plan of resting Yao Ming and he is overly tired in most fourth qtrs. On would think with Yao scoring 23 in the fourth qtr. the other night that JVG would have now found the perfect way to rest Yao! But no JVG never learns, only sticks to his old ways. (Hope not, because he needs to play more bench players and give them longer playing time).
San Antonio ran the pick and roll to death last night. THey only run with TD and Manu ro TD an Parker. You want to run the PNR with your best players. If one of he players in the PNR is not a big threat (Rafer, Spanoulis) what is it good for? I think JLIII with his speed is the only one who would be effective with it, except T-Mac
well put, GATER. like i said earlier, i view moving yao out not as a concession to our opponents, but as a way to vary to the offense and keep the defense honest.... plus, it gives yao a few breathers a game because he isn't getting mugged down low. i'm all about exploring different options, leaving the defense to adjust several times a game.
