Those are clearly Van Gundy signings. The scouts go all over the world looking at young players to draft.

Oski2005, give it up. You will never win this argument. Comparing Rockets scouts and Spurs/Mavs scouts recent performance is like comparing night and day. The last good pick from Rockets is Cat in 1998 (Yao doesn't count since he is obvious). That was 6 years ago. In that span, all Rockets picks are busts: traded, sent back to NBDL, dropped, or spending time overseas. The only thing in common: None of them is playing for the Rockets. In that span, Spurs found Ginobli, Parker, Beno, Devin Brown, Sean Marks; Mavs found Josh Howard and M. Daniels. They are all contributing significantly to their teams. Can you imagine how good the Rockets can be with some of that talnents? Yeah, that's the difference between good scouts and bad scouts.

We're not even arguing the same thing. I'm trying to point out that teams have highs and lows. Yes, the Spurs and Mavs have been succusful recently, but you act like they have always had good scouting. I'm not defending the Rockets recent picks, I'm putting them in perspective. You choose to completely ignore that obvious fact and make it seem like there wasn't a point when the mavs and spurs didn't make picks like parker and manu.

Finally, do you have even one comment that pertains to the topic of this thread? I'm sure if you try and figure out how this high school kid could hurt or help Yao, you might be able to muster something up.

I don't know about what kind of employer you have. I would be long out a job if I haven't done ANYING at work in the last SIX weeks, not to mention in the last SIX years.

The Spurs also managed to sign [Screaming A. Smith]Rasho Nesterovic[/Screaming A. Smith] to a 6 year, 45 million dollar contract. and Malik Rose to 6 years, 42 million.

Ginobili spent 3 years overseas after he was drafted before coming to the NBA. You haven't given Badiane 2, or Spanoulis 1.

The Spurs hit the jackpot on Parker, no doubt. In not too distant history, the Rockets turned a mid 1st rounder and a 2nd rounder into enough ammunition to land the #2 overall pick and another future first. But you probably haven't been a Rockets fan long enough to remember the first Francis trade.

Beno has played half a season. If you saw what he did lately (~40% FG%, 25% 3P% in January), you wouldn't be impressed. It's trendy to anoint him as the next great thing, but equally likely the NBA now has the book on him.

Devin Brown...7ppg. Congratulations. We turned an undrafted rookie into a backup PG (Andre Barrett). Devin Brown has scored 3 points or less 6 times this month alone.

And Sean Marks?!?! What are you, joking? Sean Marks has played 14 minutes, scored 8 points, and got 3 rebounds in 2 games. Is he another one of your "irrefutable points"? The guy has lounged around the league doing the same thing for a few years now. Hell, I think we even had him at mini camp a few years ago.

    What a joke.

if you want to extend the initial converstion to discuss recent scouting job aquisitions then I would simply have to bring up Motumbo.

Was this a score or what? Who woulda' thunk?

    I wonder?

Anybody remember Steve Hawes? He was a high pick for the Rockets back in the early 70's. He played a couple of years. I think he was from the University of Washington.

Weird name. Gotta be a connection...

It's not always the scouting that does it for a team. They have Tim Duncan. If Yao or can turn into anything similar to that; a player that is dominant in the inside post, any decent shooter that can throw an inbounds pass can be "decent." I think Tony Parker is overhyped. I have to agree with Giniboli, but I believe the Spurs got lucky there too. Giniboli was a TO machine in his rookie year. He's not the gem that he is without Duncan. Guards don't get that many open looks in the NBA, nor do anyone else, but with Duncan in the post getting the ball 80-90% of the time, these guards can find a spot and shoot at will.

Just imagine. Charlie Ward was an "OK" signing at least for half of this board the moment we signed him. Obviously there are speculations, but no one expected him to get hurt. I would say at least half of us liked the idea of a decent 3 point shooter in a team that SHOULD get open looks. He made a couple nice shots for us early... and then he got injured. We are way over the cap with a few bad signings, so with 2nd rounders pending, the best thing the Rockets could and should do is to draft a "potential" player and ship them overseas; saving a contract spot and "potentially" getting something in the future once your bad contracts go away.

The Spurs obviously felt that Parker and Giniboli aren't the only options. They drafted another PG in Udrih, signed Brent Barry, and made numerous attempts to put Devin Brown and Bowen as swingmen. The reason why Parker/ Manu are so hyped are because the Spurs are what they are. Role players with Tim Duncan leading the cause. Their records don't lie, but I have to be convinced otherwise that there aren't any other "Parker/ Manus" out there for SA. It's just a mix of shooters and chemistry.

Where was Kenny Thomas picked in the 1st round. And does anybody remember a guy by the name of Cory Alexander that when drafted by the Spurs, Popovich said he could be the next Sam Cassell.

    Anyway...

This kids is pretty damn good - he's committed to Washington, but if he declares, we probably won't be high enough to draft him. A perfect thrid option, though. He could probably be a better-shooting Sura with more athleticism, a guy that gets 25 points 5 assists one day, and then 12 points 12 assists the next.

    From Nbadraft.net:

Strengths: The total package ... Has the ability to score from anywhere on the court against any defender ... Unstoppable mid-range pull up J off the bounce ... Acrobatic finisher on the break ... Unlimited arsenal of offensive moves that allow him to tear through opposing defenses ... Threat from both inside and out ... Very active on the boards ... Tight handles, effortless drives to the hole, and an overall ease to which he plays the game ... 20 and 10 capabilities every time he plays ... At 6-6 and a rock solid 215 pounds has the size and versatility to play any position at the next level.

Weaknesses: Relies on outside shot too much ... Must learn to move his feet and play better on ball defense. Notes: At 16 years of age has an understanding of the game that few high school players have ... Has suffered from the injury bug during his Junior season, (specifically an ankle problem) so he needs to show that he can stay healthy ...
