A lot of it is JVG hate I think. It's no secret that a lot of the black coaches dislike JVG for some reason.
I don't think it is just the black coaches. I think the ex-players aren't much on the Van Gundys as coaches. It's like they didn't pay their dues, so they won't give them respect. As long as Van Gundy doesn't care, neither do I.
Glad to see this thread...the play by play guy was quite good. Lenny Wilkens was AWFUL. He seemed really, really bitter. The worst was: "I don't like their body language. I think they have another disappointment in the first round this year." Or something to that effect. Body language?! WTF?!!
I didn't even realize that was Wilkins, but for the most part I couldn't take too much exception to what he was saying. it was a little biased, but I wouldn't say it was wrong. The Rockets could have played better last night, especially before the foul on Yao, and the Rockets could have played better in the last five or ten games. Wilkins certainly shouldn't say "The Rockets are looking great and hitting on all cylinders" should he? "The Rockets are at the top of their game"? No. "Utah should be worried"? Not exactly: Utah just beat us like a week ago. What do you want the guy to say? The most bias I saw was when they were trying to act like Collison's foul on Yao was just a "good hard foul." The claim about T-Mac carrying the ball didn't really pan out either.
When the Rockets are playing terribly (and it happens too often) our guys tell it like it is and talk about what we need to do to improve--even praise the San Antonios of the league for their consistency and the things they do right. To sit there and bash the team that's kicking your butt and forecast their "dismal future" is unprofessional and uncalled for especially from a 2x Hall of Famer like Wilkens. I would feel the same way if our guys did that--good or bad, I wanna hear the truth and I want the focus to be on OUR TEAM...if we get whupped by PHX don't sit there and say, "You know, that Nash doesn't have many years left anyway and those guys will probably lose in the playoffs again too..." That's not our place--what can WE do to get better or improve?? How bad does your team look if all you can do is bash the team that's BEATING you??
I agree. Those douchebag announcers were pissing me off ALL NIGHT. They clearly had it out for the Rockets, and that they believed the Sonics could do no wrong. They got especially bad towards the end of the game. (They also contradicted themselves a few times when they mentioned the hustle of guys like Battier, and the energy of the bench in the third and fourth quarters...) I like how they ignored how the Rockets clearly got pissed off when the Sonics ignited them and went on two little runs... The Rockets did everything they needed to do. Those two obviously had some kind of personal disliking for this team, or are just morons (or both). But really, they were a couple of the worst announcers I have EVER heard. Hopefully the Rockets are going to own r****d haters like this, and Barkley, and other journalists this April, May, and June...
you don't know that. they would have a better chance yes. but how many times have we beat them with those players in. it's all subjective, man.
What is it with former great players and being ridiculously biased on some issues? Bill Walton does it badly. I remember him once saying he thought Phoenix played as good a defense as Houston, San Antonio and Dallas. Now thats just an insult to basketball right there.
Yes Utah should be worried. They are playing worse then we are right now. They blew a 20 point fourth quarter lead to the sonics, then get blown out by the Warriors and now sit a half game back of us. Far worse then our last two games. And yes, the palming the ball point he made was rediculous. even when they ran the replay it was never even close to a carry.
