Before I got my license I always hated or forgot to put on my seat belts, now it's just natural instinct to put it on.
I don't wear seatbelts in the back. Then again, my extreme motion sickness prevents me from sitting in the back.
Because those people who come to clean up the dead bodies, you know the EMT guys are usually paid on the states dime. The state saves money if they force you to wear your seatbelt and not have to dispatch these EMT guys every 5 minutes to go out and pick up your bloody remains after you've flown thru the window. That's why it's a law. That and insurance stuff.
OP, if we're ever in a head-on collision, and you're ejected and fly through my car windshield (and don't kill me in the process), I'll laugh at you. Then, I'll poke you in the eye... hard.
Go about 5 mph then SLAM on breaks really hard while your child is standing on back seat or walk way. After this they will always where seat belt. Worked for my kids at least.
I shouldn't be surprised by this, but strangely I am. Seat belts reduce serious crash-related injuries and deaths by about 50% From http://www.cdc.gov/Motorvehiclesafety/seatbelts/facts.html
An article in the British Medical Journal highlights some key findings: Economist John Semmens writes: I'm sure there are studies that show both ways, but yeah. Anyway, I always wear my seat belt. Not because it's a law, but because I want to.
Wow, nice post. I'm a bit surprised though that I'm almost the only one here who doesn't like wearing a seat belt. I guess it's because I come from a country where no one wears seat belts. Then again, in Pakistan the roads are so messed up that cars really never get to the speeds they do over here. Guess I better start wearing a seat belt. Have to make it a matter of habit because once I start driving I don't want to put it on.
For all those that don't wear seatbelts.... If you won't wear it for yourself, wear it for those that care about you. I started wearing mine because my father asked me to immediately after he watched 2 people die.
LOL so the law was only to prevent the EMT guys who are on the states dime having to come out and clean up your bloody body? It was put in for the safety of the person driving the car and the safety of the person in the other car. Not to reduce cost of having to send EMT guys out to pick up a body. You could say speed limits, seat belt tickets, etc is a way to increase state revenue because it does. In all reality, it is for the safety of the drivers on the road.
No. I meant the law. I would like to know the correlation between implementation of the law and decrease in car related deaths. Seatbelts have always been there [since the 70s] but it did not become law until late 80s I think. I would like to see the difference in lives save PRE and POST Rocket River
Why are so many concerned about the law? I wear a seat belt so I won't fly through the windshield, not because a cop might give me a ticket.
Just so you know, from personal experience, a seat belt WILL ABSOLUTELY help you in a hard collision. Does getting a face full of shattered windshield sound better than feeling trapped? It's not about the law....the law is in place to force people into stop being morons.
