According to the link, Latavious would have been 20 in his NBDL rookie season. LeeBigez is speaking about 18 year old players.
Never mind. Leebigez must have been misinformed about the age limit. It's been 18 since 2006. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2407522
I'm talking like baseball. If you're 18 and graduating, you should be elgible to be drafted and bypass college, but once in college, you should have to stay there for 3 yrs. The player should be able to go to the d-league at a reduced salary if drafted out of high school and remain in the training grounds and can get re-drafted after his 1st yr. The whole development thing would work well for the nba. NBDL shouldnt be viewed as a demotion or punishment like it did for T-Williams in New Jersey.
I habe a feeling Morey tries to trade Jeffries, if he can't get anything of value and sees someone that catches his eye, then he waives him.
We aren't going anywhere, so I think he's worth a look. I would like to see how much better he makes our defense, especially if he's playing with Chuck.
So, he should take away playing time from Scola, Hill or Patterson? What's Sean Williams really shown?
That maybe he's learned his lesson and ready to be an nba contributor. Williams has talent big time. He's raw, but he's a good shotblocker and rebounder. He's 24 with room to grow, but not really big enough to play center on a consistent basis. He's kinda like Birdman when he came back as a player.
Oops. How could I forget Terrence Williams punishment in the Springfield Armor NBDL team? There is also Jordan Hill, who Morey had rated low for mental or character issues.
I should have bolded this when I wrote it but THE most important part of the tidbit is that he's seemingly changed. He's the "first one to arrive, last one to go" type while in the D-League. Most former 1st rounders would probably hang their hands and sulk through D-League play. He knows he only has one or two more chances to make it in the league. Now how to fit him on our roster is another story. I personally think its time to sell high on KMart and JHill to net a trade exception and an unprotected 1st rounder. Bad teams make bad decisions, and I could see morey pulling off something like this with teams with sizable TE's like the Raptor or the Cavs.
I wish I had the link but I posted this same thought a while back (in NBA Dish), so I fully agree with what you're saying.
It still wouldn't have helped T-Williams. He stayed in Louisville for 4 years, instead of the 3 years that you proposed. With your solution, he would have left college earlier with a 3 year plan.
