SO would I that is not the point. The point this kid is more athletic than Horford has more upside and where there is no chance Horford will be available there is a slim chance Williams will. Very Slim by the way. This kid is high lottery material if he didn't have baggage. But of course you could care less because your mind is made up. Let's just hope the Rockets are smarter than you and will do their homework before discarding him.
its not about us doing our homework, its about him getting his act together. we can do all the homework we can, but in the end, its on him to show that he can put his issues behind him. he was given the same chance over and over again, and he couldnt prove that he could handle the responsibilities of a basketball player. what makes you think hes changed his ways or will change his ways? i admit, maybe i am a little closed minded, but if we do pick him and he does prove to be a bust, we're gonna be screwed. if we choose someone who ends up sucking but can at least stay on the floor, we're a little less screwed. id pick the less screwed option.
Williams came off the bench because he was a fouling machine. If he and Chuck split time at PF, they would not make the 48 minutes. Plus he has zero offense. I do like him at 26 which is a garbage pick. The Rockets need to be more athletic.
You're right. He COULD underachieve because he's a knucklehead. I guess I should have capitalized COULD in my last post. Yeah, definitely COULD have been more clear.
He does not have zero offense. He actually scores well around the basket at a very efficient rate, and 3.2 fouls per game in 32 minutes is not good for college but in the NBA that's really not so bad with the extra foul you get. No matter how good he is, I doubt he'd ever play much more than 32 minutes per game until he got accustomed to playing defense in the league anyway. I wouldn't worry about that.
Again your reading comprehension is failing you. Do your homework means doing the research to see if he really has got his act together. Oh by the way John Lucas on ABC13 vouched for him. He said to kid knows he made some mistakes and has put that behind him. ANd Sean spoke and himself said he made some bad decisions and then later refered to them as stupid decisions and that he intended to make smarter decisions in his life. Do your homework.
like i said before, its not about the homework. he can say all he wants about how he's changed, but that doesnt mean he wont suffer from the occasional slipup. it's not just his smoking problem either. he doesnt hustle, has a low basketball iq, and he just seems to have an attitude problem. however, those are correctable problems. if he REALLY has his smoking habits behind him and has REALLY grown up, then sure, it's alot less of a gamble and i would have no problem, but he really has to show the community that he's matured and wont be a problem here. hopefully good guys like yao and shane can show him what it means to be a professional. ill say it again so you'll stop calling me an idiot for writing him off...if he's actually matured and grown up, i would have no problem with the pick. its not just him smoking, or lack of hustle, its all of his faults that add up to his immaturity. maturity is his problem, and if he can prove that he's matured, then i would love for him to be here.
Id rather sign 24 year old Eddie Griffin who is still a great per minute rebounder and shotblocker......
aaaaand basically a mobil-masturbating psychotic who allegedly shot at his girlfriend. Yeah, that's the same as smoking weed
I think we should pursue Sean Williams. He's a terrific athlete and a monster shot blocker, definatly complimentary to Yao. He's fast enough to keep up with boozer and duncan though he probably won't be able to shut them down, but let's face it, who can? As for the pot smoking.....I think he'll do better in the NBA because his draft stock took a serious hit, he'll play with a vengence against those who pass at him in the draft.
They asked Chad Ford today on his ESPN Chat about where he thought Sean Williams would go in the draft and he thinks he'll either go to #17 New Jersey or #23 New York. He also thinks the rockets cuz of the MJ trade will look for a big man in the draft and he mentioned Big Baby Davis and Nick Fezekas as possibilities. I think with the rockets aquiring Mike James today, it may give them a chance with Luther Head as part of a package and their own pick to move up a several picks to draft a young animal power forward.
I hope they won't go for either Davis or Nick.I hope the Rockets can move up with Head as part of a package plus the 26th to get a good PF. Splitter may be a good fit if he has improved on his rebounding. If they can't move up they should either go for the BPA possibly Almond or Marco B might be there or take a chance on Koponen who is a true PG with size for the future. VSpan can become a good backup PG IMO but doesn't have the upside of the young Fin IMO. If Sean Williams falls to the 26th he could be worth a gamble if he has improved on his overall skills, consistency and attitude.
I have been on the Sean Williams bandwagon for quite some time. However, as Williams moves up the draft ladder with every passing day, our chances of having a shot at him diminish considerably. In short, he won't be there when we choose (if we keep our pick).
I think we should invite him for a workout for sure. But I would also like the team to do their homework such as talk to the coaches, and even other players from his team, like Dudley and stuff to find out. I just worry that our scouts have made some types of reaches in previous drafts for players they were sure about, but didnt make it. We also tend to stay away from rookies with bad character issues or big egos since Griffin pick went under. I like his game, and he will likely be the best PF at that spot. I would probably draft Almond over him at this moment, but would draft him over anyone else that would probably be available at 26.
You can't trust bonehead athletes like this anymore. As far as i'm concerned, having a solid head on your shoulders and a not-so-ideal NBA body is wayyyy more important than not possessing an ounce of intelligence and having an NBA body. Fazekas > Williams
I feel after reading your post that I needed to comment: Yao is poor at positioning himself to get rebounds except when it is his own miss close to the basket, he just does not have the mobility to do it. So we do need a tall strong and athletic Power Forward who can get most rebounds and is good at scoring from putbacks- Marcus Camby comes to mind as the type of player that I am think of! Artest is not this player , he would replace T mac as starting Small Forawrd, while T mac would return to play his natural position of Shooting Guard with Mike James as his back up. We won't be relying on Chuck, Juwan and Battier as much as last season as there is a good chance that they will be used in trades to obtain upgraded players.
Rasheed Wallace smokes pot, but it doesnt seem to affect his game. People are saying Williams has character issues because he smokes, I dont agree with that. To me a character issue is something like domestic violence, assault, etc. Lots of good people like to smoke occaisionally, it doesn't mean they have character issues. Williams can still be a productive, positive influence on this team, if we have the chance to draft him we shouldnt let that "issue" stand in the way.
