jack is a solid player who is starting calibre. he's better than lin is now but hes also a vet. him coming off the bench is because they kinda have a superstar pg in front of him, and if you actually watch gsw games, he plays alongside curry for a majority of his minutes. jack could start in half on at least 10 teams in the league right now.

I think the fit thing gets exaggerated, because if that were the thing, Dwight Howard's not much of a fit for the Rockets either and nor is CP3. and theoretically Harden's a pretty bad fit with Durant / Westbrook too, that team got to the finals with their core all south of 25.

In the NBA, one star / super star is worth as many average player as you want, but among average players, I'd think going for guys with character and continuity is a pretty good principal. That was why Kyle Lowry was shipped out by Memphis and Houston, despite him being pretty darn good among the "rest" crowd.

yeah, Calderon's offense makes up for his D to an extend since his offense is pretty much top 5 PG caliber, he's old / expensive and one has to note he's also had years where he was pretty bad. (like his age 29 season where he were merely above average in shooting, at this rate his defense bites him a lot.)

Actually I don't think CP3 is a good fit on this team. Waste of money. There are more great ball dominant point guards without rings than they are with. Plus we don't have a big man for him to pass the ball to so I doubt he would even consider coming.

And Harden was not a bad fit for OKC. He was the perfect fit because he took the ball out of Westbrook's hands and ran the point (a majority of the time he was on the court).

And you say Lin is the right fit because of his character...? I'd rather go after average guys who can shoot from the outside, play good defense, and don't turn the ball over. But to each their own.

Yes, your logic is simple... I agree.

Lin's outside shot drastically improved as the season went by, reminded me a bit of parsons last year, whose shot was pretty abysmal early on (there were threads about how parsons shouldn't shoot 3's. lol), picked up a lot mid/late year, and then continued that this year.

The only player that actually does what you're asking, on a comparable contract, is Mike Conley.

I actually think Beverly does what I'm asking. Harden and Parsons need a Fisher (forgive me for speaking his name) type player on the court with them IMO.

I think Lin needs the ball in his hand and needs to take a high volume amount of shots to be effective. Just because you're the point guard doesn't mean you're the lead guard and I think Lin is use to being the lead guard.

One way or the other the competition between the two should generate better play from the point guard position.

Beverley's an energy guy, he excels at being a pain in the ass, defending from 90 feet out every play, but activity like that requires way more energy than any human, even Lebron can muster on a starter's minutes, and when he stopped doing all that harassing, he was kind of crappy.

There is an argument for Beverly especially in the sense of the cap, though I'd generally point out that on the offensive end he's shown enough signs to worry if he was the starter.

while Harden is... a good play maker for a 2.. his assist to turn over ratio would probably be pretty bad as a primary PG.

Westbrook's ability to make plays is highly underrated. he does take too many bad shots himself, but his assist percentage is actually right up there (as in, when he do pass, he usually makes very good once. with the caveat being that this % is probably up because he takes so many shots himself.)

With Harden / Durant / Westbrook you have 3 ball dominating iso guys all on the court , with their main go to move all being iso drives to the hoop, I'm not sure how that's a good fit in theory. but it was in practice because all 3 guys could pass to some extend and you can only double team 2 player at most.

Name calling is your calling card, very mature. It must be tough for you to try to argue against the truth. Blind hate gets you no where.

Way to be cheap and try to pinch pennies, it's nice you're not the owner or the GM.

Just because you have watched tons of basketball doesn't mean you are prejudiced.

There is a reason Brooks was waived and did not have much interest. It is quite idiotic to say that he is so much better than the starting PG of a playoff team in the Western Conference.

Time to take of your ****-colored glasses.

There is always more [insert player type here] without rings than there are with them, because there are more players without rings than with them.

Lin haters are anti-intellectual, no doubt. It is nicely convenient to say that I am equally anti-intellectual but I really don't believe that to be the case. There you have it, the inconvenient truth.

Even though not sure, the first thing that comes to mind is, "racism and xenophobia is alive and well." How else to explain this irrational hatred for a player on the team one supports? Supposedly coming from the hands of a "true" fan.

So where were you during "the Hate"? (beginning of the playoffs)

You are a 99ers, that could have diffused the earlier-than-thou witchhunt.

    Well-argued and substantiated posts.

Yes, I understand what you're point and believe that in the right situation that Lin could be an exceptional PG. However, I also believe that the state of the Rockets has changed substantially since they first signed Lin. At that time, the Rockets had nothing except Kevin Martin. Had they not signed Harden, I believe that Lin would have had a much better season as the primary ball handler. We probably wouldn't have made the playoffs but Lin's stats would have been better. (I personally think Lin's career will be much better if he can play with a score only guard like Martin rather than a playmaking/scoring guard like Harden)

Now that we have Harden and are debating the hypothetical possibility of also adding Howard and Josh Smith, a situation that would change everything. This would give the Rockets three max/near max players and Jeremy Lin would not be in a position to become a star, he'd likely have to be role player. Kind of the same situation as when Carmelo came back from being hurt in NY. And if he did happen to become a star, you couldn't afford to keep him anyway, already having three max/near max contracts, plus Parsons who's in line for a big pay day. So in this scenario, Lin would at best be the 5th best player on the team and even lower depending on what veterans are brought in. My point in this whole thing is that there is only so much money, and to pay the 5th, 6th, or 7th best player on the team $8M per year is too much, especially when you can get similar production right now for less. Now, Lin may go on to become a star somewhere else but that doesn't change the fact that he's not a star now and if the Rockets sign those big 3 stars, they are definitely in a win now mode, and can't afford to pay big bucks to a player that may or may not pan out, especially if it means not having cap space to sign quality veteran role players. And honestly, if at the start of the season, the Rockets have Harden, Smith, and Howard as their big three, I highly doubt that Les Alexander, Daryl Morey, or anyone else in the Rockets organization will be embarrassed no matter how well Jeremy Lin does. To argue this point is clearly a sign of emotional thinking from the heart rather than rational thinking from the head.

So if Dan Fegan had his way, Rockets trade Harden for Gasol and Lakers would be rolling out this starting 5 next season:

    PG: Steve Nash
    SG: James Harden
    SF: Kobe Bryant
PF: Metta World Peace/Jordan Hill/Earl Clark
    C: Dwight Howard

Or, Harden can spend the next 4 years auditioning for a spot on the Lakers in 2018. He needs to prove he's ready to win championships in these 4 years though...Mitch Kupchak will be watching closely. Lebron has already proved himself last season and will be coming over in the 2014/15 season.

OK, I'm clearly joking here, but you have to admit, the bleacher report link was a little funny.

if Dan Fegan had his way, Miami's roster would be in NY, the Lakers would have Houston's roster, CP3 would also be signing with them and he'd be agent to them all.

And every finals until 2020 would be NY v LA.

Meanwhile the Yankees and Dodgers would play every world series, the Rangers and Kings every stanley cup, and the Cowboys and Patriots play every superbowl.
