Batman, a question for you, friend: What did Edwards approval ratings look like in North Carolina during his Senate tenure? Please share.

To demonstrate my friendship, Batman, I will provide you with the answer:

It was in the 35% range. Basically, they hated the man.

    Nice dodge, The_CONQUISTADOR(!).

You devote a whole thread to tarring Edwards with any questionable case tried by ANY trial lawyer and when it turns out even his opponents said he was an atypical trial lawyer and was further an honorable guy, you switch to his poll numbers. At least you called me "friend" a lot. That was nice.

I am devastated by TJ's lack of attention. Why did he not respond to my invitation? Whimper...being rejected always makes me want to sing...ahem...:

    CHORUS:
How can we be lovers if we can't be friends
How can we start over when the fighting never ends
Baby, how can we make love if we can't make amends
Tell me how we can be lovers if we can't be,
    Can't be friends

Look at us now, look at us baby
Still tryin' to work it out
    Never get it right
We must be fools, we must be crazy
Whoa, whoa, when there's no communication
Whao, Whoa, it's a no win situation

    Repeat Chorus

We lie awake, this wall between us
We're just not talking, we got so much to say
Let's break these chains, our love can free us
Whoa, Whoa, ain't it time we started tryin'
Whoa, whoa, gotta stop this love from dying

    Repeat Chorus

Baby, love is tough but we can take it
Baby, times are rough but we can make it
    We can work it out

    Repeat Chorus

No Batman, my post was a *direct* response to your insinuation that his "home state" honored him. You provided faulty evidence to support your statement. You provided testimonials from a handful of lawyers. I provided a poll representing the entire state. This, friend, is why I am most definitely advantaged in this argument.

When your approval rating is in the mid 30's, you are not "honored in your state". Nice try at trying to slip that in. It may have worked on a less astute audience. Try the Hangout next time.

I was wondering why this thread was still alive; should've guessed it just turned into a thread about el CONQUISTADOR Bizarro.

If Edwards goes from being a probably un-reelected US Senator to being the enthusiastic choice for VP, this will be a shout-it-from-the-mountaintops testimony regarding the problems with politics in America today.

'Next' is the REST of the story:

    http://www.charlotte.com/mld/charlotte/news/special_packages/john_edwards/4979529.htm?1c

Ooh, shocker. Republicans hated their Democrat Senator. (Don't you just hate details?)

And FWIW, it doesn't mean much yet WRT the election:

    Hilarious!

Slice, dice, distort and spin however you want, but the fact is that his approval ratings were horrific. North Carolinians did not like the job he did in the Senate. Period. A poll on Edwards' decision to seek the Presidency is much different than an approval ratings poll on the job he is doing. Heck, a lot of people probably approved of his decision to run for President just so that he would get the heck out of the his Senate job! The fact remains, when we are talking about his home state "honoring" him, we are talking about all citizens, not just the handpicked ones that share his liberal ideological beliefs. Nice try though. What Batman posted was disingenuous and has been successfully refuted. With only 37% of North Carolinians supporting his decision to seek the Presidency, it is clear that he is not "honored" in his home state, as was alleged by Batman.

What is with these Hangout-quality arguments leaking into the D&D from the liberals? Step it up, friends!

That's just sad. Even when Jorge entirely dodges an article that depicts Edwards as an unusually un-scummy trial lawyer in favor of NC polls, he gets embarassed by Cohen and the facts. (The Daily Show was right -- the facts are clearly partisan and unpatriotic.)

Jorge, I didn't write the article so I don't know why you're responding to me like I did. I posted it in response to your original premise -- that trial lawyers and, by extension, JE were the scum of the earth. You've posted several articles in this thread about cases that OTHER trial lawyers have prosecuted that were plainly intended to tar his reputation by connection to others in his profession. I posted that article to show that he is not regarded to be among the class of lawyers you describe as scum. You'd already made my point for me since you weren't posting about his cases at all, but cases he had no connection to, but I thought it'd be fun to point out that even his adversaries had respect for his integrity.

I didn't delete the stuff that didn't make my direct point because I'm not like you -- when I post an article I post the whole thing. I don't edit for effect. And of course, even if I did, you'd find another way to dodge it. You'd probably focus on the fact that people called him Johnny. I know names are an enormous factor in your ideology.

I like this new thing you do, by the way. I like the way you've found to go poof (on the article I posted but much more on Bush's suit that you've repeatedly ignored) without even leaving the thread. Having been funny for so long on purpose and having lost it entirely, you're approaching a place where you're funny in spite of yourself. Faos has apparently been a great mentor to you. Rookie.

First, get your labels right. El Conquistadoro Bizzaro, you can call me 'A CONSERVATIVE who thinks Bush is dangerously stupid'.

    Now onto the details.

Mr. Finance degree, right? Hmmm, don't you slice-and-dice for a living? Or did you never learn to analyze a P&L? So you just ignorantly draw your conclusions from the bottom-line? For instance, a company has a loss due to a one-time occurence. Guess that you'd be running around calling any analysis 'spin'.

Who's doing the spinnin' here? Nice try, but I really don't think that you're that stupid, el q, and you shouldn't think others are either.

You show us an old poll and think that's the end of the story? We shouldn't try to determine why Edward's performance was 'disapproved' of? It shouldn't be important than no other possible reasons for his approval rating drop have been presented other than he was spending too much time pursuing a future bid for the Presidency? Nope, not an ideological or voting record thing. Just the local Republicans didn't want him to spend his time seeking the Democratic candidacy. woop-ti-do.

Why don't we look at more recent polls, that show Bush's approval dropping in NC and that Edward's addition to the Kerry ticket can now carry the State for the Democrats. yikes. Guess we don't want to go there, eh?

If you take a Bizarro version of Trad... CONQUISTADOR, is it still the same CONQUISTADOR?

Does Normal Version CONQUISTADOR = Bizarro version CONQUISTADOR?

Strange... Stephen Hawking should begin studying this immediately!

    LOL!!

I can tell when the liberals are caught sticking their hand in the cookie jar. They react to the ownership by quickly denying things and attacking the victor, which in this case is me. This ownership was so clearcut that reinforcements had to be called in, in the form of ShamFisher.

So let us take a step back and look at the facts:

    1) Batman tries to portray Pretty Face Edwards as being honored and revered in his home state

    2) Batman cites a handful of lawyers as proof. Clearly the sample size is too small for this to serve as valid evidence.

    3) I debunk Batman's ridiculous claim by pointing out that Edwards approval rating during his Senate run was ABYSMAL. Batman blows his lid and starts hurling insults.

    4) Cohen then jumps in and provides evidence that only 37% of North Carolians support Pretty Face's run for President. This figure actually buttresses my original argument that North Carolinians don't like Edwards.

    5) Cohen then attempts to use the fact from 4) to claim that many Republicans influenced the figure. Objection: Irrelevance

    6) CONQUISTADOR accurately points out that to be honored and revered in your home state, you can not selectively prune liberals to take the poll from. CONQUISTADOR accurately points out that North Carolinians didn't approve of Pretty Face's job in the Senate.

    7) CONQUISTADOR prevails in the argument, and Batman and Cohen work furiously to cover themselves from the exposure. Cohen is trying to bring new polls into the discussion, after the fact. Batman is reduced to arguing that Pretty Face isn't scum. SamFisher is reduced to linking up to a thread in which I did in fact post the entire article by linking to the story. Sadly, they fail to find cover and they stand naked for all to see.

Let's see, Batman, Cohen and ShamFisher, the three of you have failed in your attempt to take me on, despite the strength in numbers that you enjoy. I have the strength of 10 liberals. You can not defeat me with a mere trio.

    Ho ho ho!

Now that I've completely silenced Batman and Cohen by easily defeating them in spirited debate, I provide you with more work of the trial lawyers:

Woman Sues Over Eating Ban on Buses
Jamila Glauber filed a lawsuit against the transit system in Juneau, Alaska, because a driver's attempt to enforce the well-known no-eating rule on a bus caused her, she says, at least $50,000 worth of emotional distress; she was trying to eat a Snickers bar.

If T_J doesn't answer the question of the Bush Lawsuits, I think we should all collectively decide to put him on our ignore list. If he is alwasy going to avoid the tough questions and claim victory at the same time, I see no reason to waste anymore time with him.
